7200.10 Full Spec?

They have arrived and are nestled under my desk :D

There my first seagate drives so am pretty keen to try them out.

I currently have 7 Maxtor diamond max 10's (i was young and foolish) and a raptor, but will try and do a side by side comparison of each.

I'll try and include some real life tests as well such as moving large files and.....stuff :S

any suggestions are welcome, cant wait to get home :D

hi

7 maxtors bloody hell, please do a comparison with the raptor, and use the the software and what you suggested to bench them.

many thanks

No problem, if anyone else wants tests please let me know,

I'll try and make some real life observations, such as temperature when squeezed between 2 drives etc.

Yeah i have about 1.3TB, most of it is backups of my CD's and DVD's as i constantly scratch and lose disks, also I do a fair bit of encoding and photography.

With the 640GBs i just got will be around the 1.7TB mark as they are replacing existing drives.

Ill post some photos as well

thats great thanks for you time for this :)

Well I have put one in!

It booted up perfectly and im just giving it a quick format and initialisation (sp?) before the testing begins, its been about 30 minutes and its up to 20% so feel free to get a drink....not goin anywhere soon ;)

hi there

dont forget about the noise and its good point to listen to it when its formatting?

any noticable differences so far?

thanks

I cant seem to hear any seeking noise or anything like that, i still have all my other drives plugged in and a wealth of fans so i cant be subjective about noise, but as compared to the Raptors 'screechy' seeking this seems to be a dream :)

When i put my ear close to it, I do get a certain low hum but this doesnt seem to increase with activity.

Ill format it fully, then unplug all devices i dont need to boot it and give it the full test.

I plan to do HD tach tests both long and short of:

Seagate VS Raptor and Seagate VS Maxtor Diamondmax

I have a program called HDD Life, which shows the drive is warming up to aabout 35C, its outside of the case so has little airflow, again i'll wait till its properly installed before any judgements, but it all seems good so far :D

EDIT: Do the A8N SLi Deluxe 8x Sata ports all support the 3GB/s? just want to make sure that im putting the seagate in the best port. Cheers

ok got me drink .is it done yet ?
:D :D :D

Just incase anyone was wondering the formatted size of these drives is 298GB

I have a bit of emergency work to do on the family computer as the PSU is making a sound like a blender on steroids, i'll get back to the testing ASAP!

Managed to fit in a few HD Tach tests. As far as i'm aware these results are pretty good!

Raptor first, I think the low score for this is explained by the fact its the windows drive? It certainly didnt seem very impressive...

Seagate

Long test: THE ONE YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!

I think thats pretty damn impressive? There is no data currently on the seagate and the raptor has 31% free space and is defraged daily.

Copied a 700MB RAR file from a Maxtor DiamondMax10 to the Segate in 8.5 seconds.

Next i will clone one of the hard drives using acronis and give it a big stress test

Yeah these are definetly some impressive drives! I transfered 50GB across in 30 minutes, but that was from IDE so not really pushing its limits.

I reckon i will replace the rest of my drives with these as the are the best value for money drive I have seen.

Just in case you didnt know, they have NCQ and 16MB of cache which makes all the difference in my eyes, and they are very quiet, but not silent of course, so dont expect miracles!

Best of luck with yours guys!

Hello
i was wondering if you are useing them as SATA2 and did u try and disable acoustic management to give it more of a boost
