Yeah these are definetly some impressive drives! I transfered 50GB across in 30 minutes, but that was from IDE so not really pushing its limits.

I reckon i will replace the rest of my drives with these as the are the best value for money drive I have seen.

Just in case you didnt know, they have NCQ and 16MB of cache which makes all the difference in my eyes, and they are very quiet, but not silent of course, so dont expect miracles!

Best of luck with yours guys!

thats great

are these running at sata2 and most importantly the sound, how would you rate the spund compare lets say the raptor or just describe what you hear please.

thanks a lot for the pics and time for this and keep us posted and update us on the drives as well.

thanks

The board i am using has 8 sata ports, AFAIK they are all SATA II and NCQ enabled (please tell me if im wrong?) I havent yet fiddled with the drive settings.

A word on sound though, i cannot heard this drive over my maxtors.

When i listen close there is certainly a crunching noise when it is seeking, but compared to the clicking sound of a maxtor its inaudiable. I will post some more reports 2moro when i try the Silicon image controller, and see what the difference is with the acoustic management off.

To sum up, i wouldnt hesitate to recommend these HDD's. I will keep this updated if i get any problems down the line, but with 5 years warrenty, i doubt any problems! *touches wood*

Any idea how i can tell they are SATA II enabled?

I did remove a jumper at the back of the drive which when on, limites the drive to 1.5GB/s mode.

I assumed that if it didnt support the 3GB/s on the board it would let it work?

Not a problem! Kinda enjoy being a guinea pig :P

I have been doing some reading and have made a few cd which u can boot into and they let you fiddle with the settings and tell you what your current settings are, i'll run this when the copying has finished.

One of these drives just made two IDE drives redundant!

Ill make them into a nice home network server for backups :D

Any other things you want me to find out, just gimmie a shout

yes
could u send the new drive over to my house so i can test it to ? i will send it back when im done. honest :D

Why not, you seem like a trust worthy guy, just give me your home address, phone number, credit card details and car keys and we can arrange something :D

But seriously, if your debating whether to get one (or 2) of these puppies....debate no longer ;)

Err no thanks, one part time girlfriend is more than i can handle :S

I will do that acoustic test next, i did do it with my maxtors but noticed little difference. No point having it silent if the rest arnt! I'll post another long test image when i do that late 2moro afternoon.

Time for some college work now :(

Aww schucks, im all red :P :o

I tried the Seagate tool and the Hitachi feature, both without a whole lot of success.

The Seagate one didnt offer much in the way of tweaking, more just checking the drive.

The Hitachi one didnt pick up the Seagate drive, but found the Raptor and Maxtors.

I'll fiddle more this evening.
