Birthday coming up in 5 week time, and have had Hawksmoor recommended by a friend so I've booked it. I'm a big steak fan, it's quite pricey though - has anyone been there?

I'm keen to know if it's what you made of it? Is it really good?

No but I really want to go.
You will have to tell us what it's like.

Drools at menu

Either porterhouse or the 55day aged rump, with beef dripping chips, Bone marrow(want to try it) And mac and cheese. Omg that would be good.
Followed by peanut butter shortbread with Salted caramel ice cream.

Think with that lot, forego a starter.

Yup starter will be skipped (although the black pudding maybe sampled).

600G bone in sirlion for myself, 300G fillet for the missus :] (unless theres 800G or similar porterhouse for us both on the blackboard)
Not 100% sure about side dishes, I'm thinking salad, spinach and beef dripping chips to share.
Jesus I could eat it now.

Must get round to trying Hawksmoor, but I'm a huge fan of Goodmans. Amazing steak - totally ruined steak for me everywhere else however :p

Dam this thread to hell! After reading through that entire website, I'm now contemplating booking the next flight down to London. I will also be mopping the drool off my keyboard for some time.

I need to try Goodmans, but honestly, I think it will struggles to beat the Hawks with the absence of chateaubriand.

Not when you're ordering 1200g of it with lobster ;)

Haha, my mates ordered 1.2kg between them when we went last time, me and my other mate went for 1.2kg rib eye. The only thing was, my mate who ordered the chateaubriand didn't tell his other mate how much it cost and almost had a heart attack when he saw it was £60/each :D

Yes been with some work colleagues. We ordered a 1.2k rib eye, bone marrow, tripple cooked chips and beef dripping chips, mac and cheese, mushrooms.

It was probably the best meal I have ever had. Make sure you get there early enough to have a couple of cocktails at the bar first - they are immense.

The guys who I went with had been a few times so we got some free pork chops for starter - they were insanely good. Came to about £60 per head.

All that for £60? Sounds a bargain.

Yep he says per head in his post, it still strikes me as cheap for a top notch London steak house with cocktails. Even if the cocktails weren't included in that price per head, I'm assuming the wine was so it sounds fair imo.

Yeah that was excluding cocktails at the start but did include a couple of beers each. Really not that bad for a fantastic meal. Arguably could have done with a slightly bigger steak.

I've had the fortune (my wallet has had the misfortune) of going to Hawksmoor 3 times in as many weeks - mainly for the breakfast.

I must admit that my first steak experience here was a bit average (they forgot to offer us sauces, and a 400g of fillet can become somewhat samey without much other flavour.) but overall the experience was pretty good. They put quite a bit of emphasis on the drinks menu and have got a decent wine list.

Having been to Goodmans quite a few times recently I'm getting pretty bored of the place, and am really looking forward to going back to Hawksmoor for dinner.

If you're going to have one of the cocktails, I'd recommend the Shakey Pete's Ginger Brew - big fan: http://www.thehawksmoor.co.uk/downloads/HM_Cocktail_2-10-10_web.pdf

I'm in for a good few weeks of eating now. Next week (because of this thread) I'm off to Hawksmoor in Spitalfields, the following week it's The Waterside Inn, and the week after that it's The Ledbury :D.

*looks down at cheese pasty* :(

Will have to check this place out next time I am in 'that London'. We have a place near us here in Chester called 'Upstairs at the Grill' http://www.upstairsatthegrill.co.uk/ that was very very good for a steak.

However, no UK steakhouse I have visited compares with an American one. Not even close...

If you ever go to Manchester go to Gaucho http://www.gauchorestaurants.co.uk/, it's an amazing place! I bet it competes with Hawksmoor.
