Love steak - booked a table in Hawksmoor, London - anyone been there?

Grain fed is yucky compared to 'nappy' reared since returning from Argentina I can hardly bring myself to eat steak in the UK

It wasn't a serious comment... Just pointing out the similarities of name.

I haven't directly compared grain-fed vs other forms of feeding in regards to beef. I find corn-fed chicken bizarre to look at but it certainly adds an interesting flavour to the bird. I would imagine that I'd enjoy both forms of beef in different situations/dishes.

Corn fed beef is definitely tastier than grass fed.

What makes US steak great though is a combination the aging process, the steaks are cut properly thick enough (1 inch minimum) so you don't get dried out leather, the cooking process to sear the outside and retain moisture and add flavour, the decent portion sizes and the lower prices that let you go for higher quality steaks. Also, all the sides and toppings are immense.

Best place I ever went was Manny's in minneapolis , the porterhause was out of this world.

Their new restaurant opens tomorrow - Air Street. Have a booking for next week. They're doing the usual steak stuff but adding a load of seafood too.

Went yesterday. Interesting selection of seafood. I pigged out and had two starters whilst my mate had two mains!

Decent version of a Hawksmoor, but it's getting less and less like their original endeavour in Shoreditch - which is totally fine, but leaves you with a differing experience each time. This is massively grandiose and over the top, but excellent service as always and a slightly broader drinks list.

Sorry for the necro! I'll be going there this Thursday (Seven Dials) and was wondering if anyone had any recent tips or recommendations.

I'm not the biggest foodie and am a little intimidated by the menu - especially choosing the weight of some of the steaks, etc.

Any input welcomed :)

American Beef is typically more Corn (+ grass where available) fed - corn fed chicken tastes so much better than regular chicken, the same goes for beef.

Depends on how much you feel you can eat. The 300g fillet, plus two or three sides will likely feed you well - especially if you have one, two or three additional courses. I tend to share a porterhouse when I go there, and would also recommend their Tamworth belly ribs to start too.

They also have a decent wine list. Again, depending on budget, I'd recommend the two wines which they stock through their partnership with Perrin Familie in the southern Rhone region. The Vinsobres is good, but the Gigondas is excellent. In fact, I bought along a bottle of the Gigondas to a meal yesterday and it went down very well.

Lastly, the peanut butter shortbread as a desert is unbelievable.

Thanks for the reply and the suggestions!

I've heard the sticky toffee pudding is lovely too.

I'm not really a wine drinker but I'll see how I (coffers) feel. Also... bone marrow gravy... I'm very curious!

I am taking the missus up to London for a surprise weekend at the beginning on January (4th) and am thinking of taking her to the Seven Dials restaurant for Sunday Lunch. Looks good value for £19.50.

Their roasts are fantastic value I have to say. I love the 7 dials one too. Not too big. You can always go for a steak with roast trimmings too :) which is amazing.
