People still pre-order over the counter? :o

:confused:I probably will, unless online bundles are considerably better. Guaranteed to get it on the day as soon as the shop opens, if not at midnight the night before. No chance of couriers not turning up until the evening (if at all), no chance of it turning up 3 days late etc. etc.

Same, something nice about going at midnight for a new console rather than sitting hoping it turns up :D

Pre-ordering before there's been even the slightest indication of price. People are weird.

Not really, if its free to pre-order or a small amount why not? It doesn't cost anything and if they do announce an insane price you cancel the pre-order. If your not overly bothered what the price is as long as it not completely nuts then your in the queue to get one of the 1st ones available. Thats the way I see it and that what I've done on all the console releases since the PS2 and what I've done with the PS4 and Xbox One.

If all this pre-ordering is going through the roof, funny how all these customers have forgotten about the red ring of death problems. The first year or two with the 360 was not a rosy launch. Lot's of people opening them on Christmas morning and they were dead or error signs.

Man I must be one of those few wierdos that will wait a fair few months until theres at least more than a trickle of games available before I decide when to get the console. I just dont see the attraction of being the first person to get a new gadget then have next to nothing to play on it and then end up moaning how poor the launch titles or general support was post release...

Plenty to tide me over on the current consoles thank you very much :p

ps3ud0

Unless you are getting both consoles, I don't get why people would pre-order prior to E3. I can understand pre-ordering generally, it's a good way to guarantee a console on launch day, but not waiting until we know all the facts about both the consoles, know more about the launch lineup and have seen some actual gameplay, that seems crazy to me.

On the PS4 side, we don't even know what it looks like yet and don't really know much about the launch lineup; and on the Xbox side, there's been no actual gameplay footage yet, and again we don't know the launch lineup. I can understand that it's easy enough to cancel or change the pre-order, but E3 is only a few weeks away now, surely it's more sensible to wait until after that and then pre-order?!

LOL, if MotorStorm and Heavenly Sword weren't launch titles, I would never have even entertained purchasing them for PS3. But it's different this time, Killzone, Infamous and Assassin's Creed all look pretty good.

+1, Couldn't agree more. Especially new COD,Battlefield and GTA games also releasing on xbox360/PS3 means there is still plenty of life left in current gens.

I loved heavenly sword :D and I may have missed it if I'd had been released amongst a mass of games. Especially considering a lot of people disliked it.

I'll be buying both on launch.

MS and Sony have both said categorically that Xbox one and PS4 will allow used games sales.

Categorically is a strong word.

Show me a named quote from somebody working at Sony or Microsoft.

There are a million articles on the web quoting "sources close to microsoft" or information revealed from a "sony representative"

Nobody has pinned their colours to the flag and definitely confirmed that used games wil work on the PS4 / Xbox one the same as they do now.

Microsoft made a statement through Major Nelson that they had a "solution" for pre owned games, but didn't say what that was or how much you might have to pay to activate your used copy.

Because it's pointless. There's no benefit to pre-ordering now when barely any information is known, vs pre-ordering in a couple of months time when there's actually an indication of what games will be available and what the price will be.

It seems to be for bragging rights, more than anything.

I never completed that. I got stuck at the level in the snow throwing some giant balls taking down 3 - 4 towers? I kept running out of time.

Why?

You don't have to follow through on a pre-order if you don't want to, and can just get a refund if you decide against getting one because of price etc.

If everything is still OK come launch, you've at least guaranteed yourself a console.

Xbox One seems to be getting all the heat on the preowned thing at the moment but Sony said very similar stuff back in February.

Microsofts Major Nelson (larry Hryb)
We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.

Shuhei Yoshida said in February:
Reference a question: So if someone buys a PlayStation 4 game, you're not going to stop them reselling it?
"So, used games can play on PS4. How is that?"

On activation codes for secondhand PS4 titles:
It's a publisher decision. We are not talking about it. Sorry.
PlayStation UK Managing Director Fergal Gara was asked to confirm reports of Yoshida's earlier "used games are OK" statements.
"Well, first of all, we haven't stated that second-hand games... we haven’t made a statement on the second-hand games question," Gara said. "The answer to the pre-owned question isn’t clarified just yet and we’re working through that and we’ll announce our position in more detail as and when we can."
Both companies have confirmed you will be able to sell and buy pre owned games. To be fair what they haven't qualified is if there will be charges or activation codes needed. The rumours go from "Full msrp" to "free but it will enforce a deactivation of the previous owners copy".
