Breaking News:- Another Police woman Shot

Sounds like she'd be dead if it wasn't for her body armour. She still sounds in a bad way though.

edit - the article has been updated now and it says she was shot below the armour.

Have you ever been hit by an Asp? the are made from titanium and heart one hell of a lot and used properly will disable and possible break bones ;) A Close family member is District commander in the bristol area and has shown us (me and my brothers) what can be done with them.

Arguments against both.

One has got to get within a certain range to use an ASP baton, the same goes with pepper spray. Not much use if the criminal has a gun and is standing 50 yds away.

Handing guns to police officers also has a drawback... more guns will be in circulation within these Isles.
These shootings a fairly one of incidents, they could become common practise if more guns were introduced, take a good look at America.

yep on my door step to, only 6 miles away

BTW lots of roads closed Ilkeston rd is closed both ways

I work on University Boulevard , not sure where this is in relation to Lenton Boulevard but both are NG7 2 postcodes , may well be difficult to get there today

You think it's on your doorstep - I live on Lenton Boulevard.

This means I can't drive to lectures this morning. It's also pushed my missus over the edge who hated the area enough as it was!

Police officers only wear stab vests - they officer practically no ballistic protection at all.

I can see this is going to stir up the "Should the police be armed?" debate again, and all too soon.

Or how about cutting the ***p and start arresting people ( I use the word advisedly ) and breaking up these gangs !

If the cops weren't so bothered about being so PC and seen not to be 'abusing human rights ' or racist, then maybe these idiots wouldn't be so cocky !

Just get in there and sort these animals out !

This is one member of the british public who has had enough of these pathetic gansta wannabe's and I for one would support the actions of the police ! Even better , use the SAS !

I am all for cops having guns. If it is regulated properly by the right people theres no reason for any guns to go missing. and it should make the unarmed criminals think twice and the armed ones be a lot more cautious lol.

Im sure 99% of the police force think like this but due to goverment restrictions, the EU parliament, their hands are tied. There's just too much red tape for them to do the job how it should be done.
As arming the Police I read a survey recently that said that 80%+ of officers do not want to be armed.

Yep ditto. I'm on the boulevard of broken dreams too and can see radford boulevard closed off, and all the news vans. I'm right up by the traffic lights on derby road. Scary stuff, i didn't hear anything and slept through everything.

I'm all for arming the police, and have always been. Plus i think you should arm the students so we could police this area, as the chavs, and people from the 'crack' towers behind lenton boulevard come around here to mug, shoplift, and burgle.

Thank god im moving next to the park for my 4th year :)

Give cops guns.

Fight fire with fire, the only people who will be willing to shoot police are the bad guys.

As this happens more and more I can see the figure changing.

Do police start not responding to breakings or robberies, its only going to get worse, criminals are scum and will carry any weapon to get away from the police.

As far as Im aware only firearms officers are equipped with ballastic vests, the body armour that this officer was wearing would more than likely be a stab proof vest.

Unfortuneately the stab proof vest is little use against ballistics and the ballistic vest not so good against knifes etc.

Exactly what the hell will a taser do at ranges past 3-5m or so. The same with cs-gas. What's left for the cops to defend themselves with........... stones ??
