News is spreading fast around the web about this.

A certain much sought after, highly rated game, being released tomorrow requires users to activate online via SecuCom.

So whats new? You can only do it twice. 2 times only. Hard luck if you want to install it on your other partition, laptop, etc. Hard luck if your Hard disk/mobo blows up. You loose one of your 2 chances to activate the game.

No one knows if its twice per day, month, etc, or twice forever. The publisher hasn't made any comment so far. Apparently there is a hotline for SecuRom, but nobody knows if it helps, cause the line is only open at certain times during the day. Go figure!

DRM for games is here.

As I said in the official Bioshock thread; It's high time these companies learned that all copy-protection does is inconvenience the legitimate customer. These measures are supposed to fight piracy, but pirates will always find a crack or other work-around and it won't bother them in the slightest.

Media DRM is also a joke because not only can you work around it, but raw rips of HD media play back in their high-definition resolutions by default with full image quality and multi-channel audio with EAX etc.

Come on developers, do yourself a favour and educate yourselves to the fact you're accomplishing nothing but making it harder for legitimate customers to use your products.

Is there a reason you're being so coy with the name of the game?
i assume we're talking about Bioshock?

A source would be nice. :)

So your '2 times only' comment above, may or may not be accurate. Gonna need that source for some more detail! ;)

If this becomes the norm, it will wipe out one of the things that's always made PC gaming fantastic... the fact that you can play your older games on your new rig.

Go look at the 2K forums.

I didn't mention the actual game is because it's SecuRom thats doing the dirt, and as such, will probably apply to other titles in the near future.

The fact that the exact activation rules haven't been made clear to customers only makes it worse.

So copy protection should be abolished? How dare the developers have a desire to protect their work... sheesh, ingrates!

It doesnt matter how effective it is, it's enough to stop the casual gamer from theft, even if the hardcore hackers will find a way.
Please don't refer to my opinion as "BS", I wouldn't even consider doing that to you.

Cracks are easy to find, even for complete newbies, and they're even easier to apply than to find. I'm sorry but copy protection doesn't help, in fact it doesn't affect anyone except the legitimate customer.

If that statement is "BS", provide an actual counter-point this time, and also feel free to insert your  into your rectum next time you decide to use it. Way to make yourself come across as a total prat.

The worst part is that nobody knows. They haven't explained exactly what the rules are.
