So, do you think Apple will be releasing a new iPod soon? I think it's about time they did and judging by the amount of rumors and 'leaks' it may happen.

Many places are pointing towards the Apple Event on the 5th September.

Now that Apple has invited select media to the a press event which will take place on September 5th, 2007, it seems clear that Apple's iPods will finally see updates.

Apple has been rumored to beholding a media event to launch the new iPods. Rumors have pinpointed both revised Nanos as well as a full-screen touch iPod.

The invite depicts "Cover Flow", which is expected to be arriving with the new OS X based iPods. The iPods have been the subject of a number of recent leaks (Nano photos, Interface Videos) which have attracted the attention of Apple Legal.

Arstechnica claims that Apple will be holding a major event on September 5th, 2007 according to "sources within the company".

Our sources are slim on details for exactly what will be announced, but said that at least one of the things that will come out of September 5th will be a new iPod.

I hope they are OS X based iPods, like the iPhone, and possibly a touch screen would be nice. Also putting cover flow on them would be nice.

Time to start saving.

A bit of a no brainer, seeing as the invites depict an iPod theme and cover flow :)

Think I might sell my Nano in anticipation ;)

Must resist the urge to sell my iPod before something is announced ;)

Seeing as my bday is the 6th I may just wait until the 13th (...when I'm in London) to collect one from an Apple Store.

God knows if I could wait that long though (especially if they look like the iPhone:D)

I sold my last one when there were rumors of a new iPod and all they did was bump the spec from 60->80 :o

Just want to wait this one out..

5th gen 30Gb video, I think I may as well put it on eBay because I need more than 30Gb now as it's full up, so if a new iPod comes out that's great, but if it doesn't I will get a brand new one with more space.

Are people usually this "must drop current gen instantly" with Apple stuff?

Usually yeah. The rumors are very accurate most of the time.

Fair enough. I've not long (few months) bought a latest gen 80GB iPod Video, no plans to change it yet... just slightly worried about how huge the nosedive in value is going to be.

I might have to get one if they look like the images posted in the articles :)

I'm using my k800i for MP3 playback atm and it's a bit limited :(
I wonder if you could do extra stuff with them if they have OS X on them  :D

More flexibility for iPod games developers? :D

Going to be interesting to see what's announced. My 4th gen 20GB is still working perfectly though so there's no reason for me to change it yet. Be nice to know that if it does finally decide to bite the dust though that a decent replacement will be around.

I recon it's pretty much certain they'll be releasing a new full size iPod, current one had been around since 2003 ish?! Doubt the Nano will be updated, current style is only a year old. Wouldn't be suprised if there were capacity increases on the shuffle and nano though.

If they do update them I think I'll update from my 20Gb 3G to something bigger capacity :)

The next iPod, if its any good, and the Euro iPhone doesnt add MMS, then i'll more than happily shell out for the next top iPod.
My current 60Gb is my most used item. I use it every day!:p.

You'd buy the EU iPhone if it didn't have 3G? Imagine Youtube, etc over GPRS... slowwwwwwww

you can argue it any way you want really. *if* i was going to buy an iphone I wouldn't be bothered about the lack of 3G, google maps (the application I'd want most on the go and use at the moment) works fine with GPRS. I'm not going to ownder down the street looking at youtube tbh, I have wifi at home and at work and if I want to use it when I'd away from home (visiting parents for example) there's no guarentee of 3G coverage anyway.

That said, I'm not buying an iphone, my blackberry is likely better for my uses and I don't have to pay for it. So I'll be buying the touch screen ipod the day it's available in the apple store in london, my nano is looking a bit battered anyway.

3g drains battery life a lot. Plus, data is still expensive.
Those two combined means that even on my current 3g enabled phone, i have it disabled.
MMS is the only major point on the iPhone missing/wrong for me. :).
