New iPod??

Plus, data is still expensive.
What's that have to do with anything? The iPhone is going to have to be on a high-limits/unlimited tariff anyway, so that doesn't matter. Sure that's a reason for having it turned off at the moment, but it's not an argument for not having it on the iPhone. You're going to be shifting the same amount of data looking up a route in Google Maps whether you're on GPRS or 3G, it's just one method is painfully slow, and the other isn't.

The point is that i myself wouldnt use data. Because its expensive to use, and the cost of using it, battery wise, is high as well, especially with 3g.

I'd rather the iPhone V1 didn't have 3G.

..at least until they learn how to double the battery life :)

The question is, what are the ratios of speed to battery life?

Say it takes 5 times longer to shift the same amount of data over GPRS, but the battery only lasts twice as long, then wouldn't your battery actually last longer if you used 3G? Assuming it disconnected between transferring data rather than sitting on the connection.

Comparing a Blackberry on 3G Vs. EDGE the drain was approximately 55% worse when using 3G.

Interestingly enough when using WiFi it was even better (as in less of a drain than EDGE) :)

(I think it was Engadget who tested it)

..of course, EDGE speeds are location dependant, so you could be in a poor area and get poor speeds.. where 3G is more consistent.

Trying to justify 3g. ;)
You cant really argue it tbh, because your asuming that the maximum bandwidth would be needed. When it wouldnt.

Its moot anyway, as stated, i personally, dont use any/much data how it is.
Considering 5minutes of 3g does use more battery life on most phones than 5minute of GPRS, for the occasional website, transfer speed isnt applicable. As long as the page appears within that few minutes for me, and it would, it would still use less power than 3g.

Digital radio? Not going to happen, unless Apple make Satellite radio iPods for the US and DAB ones for Europe.

I have no idea why people are still citing the terrible shop of the new iPod, you can clearly see the cut lines where the removed the top of a nano and stretched the screen. definitely something iPody going on though.

I hope they don't bring out the FatNano, but you never know! :(

Give me a full size iPod with wifi and touch screen and it'll be perfect!

I am really hoping they bring out a touch screen ipod or at least an ipod which has a really big screen, had my nano for 2 years and I really want something newer and allow me to watch Videos. Please make it come true Apple.Whens the announcement?5th Sept?Anyone know what time in UK it will be announced?
