Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Being such a big game it need it's own proper discussion thread. Judging by the beta and various reviews, this game is going to be immense. Yes single player isn't the longest but multi player is where it's at. 18 players, Intense as you like and simply jaw dropping visuals. :D

A few reviews...

IGN PS3 Review 9.4
IGN Xbox 360 Review 9.4
GameTrailers Video Review 9.4
Games Rankings 360 Currently 96% average
Games Rankings PS3 Currently 95% average

I think it's fair to say that this game is going to be pretty ******* good. MP is just going be superb and I can see a few late nights coming up. :D

Seems like infinity ward have done a very good job with this one,

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a fantastic game. The single-player experience is easily Infinity Ward's best work to date. Calling it intense may be an understatement. The overall story is standard action movie fare, but the relationships built over the short five hours of play are surprisingly strong. Though the single-player lacks length, the multiplayer should keep you invested in COD4 for the long winter. This is a truly fantastic multiplayer offering that's as deep as any other online game available.

9.0 Presentation
If this is war, consider me a future draft-dodger.
10 Graphics
From top to bottom, one of the best-looking console games around.
9.5 Sound
The explosions will shake you; the constant sounds of gunfire will put you on edge. The end song is an added bonus and properly immortalizes the unfortunate phrase, "Go deep and hard."
9.5 Gameplay
An excellent shooter that is as intense an experience as you can find in gaming. The multiplayer is also top-notch.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
The single-player experience is brief, but there are many other things that will hold your attention once the campaign is complete.
9.4
Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Infinity Ward has done it again. Call of Duty 4 is a winner.

Think the 360 review is exactly the same word for word.

I'm jealous! My mate has his version now. I tried to buy it from him, but he's giving it to my friend for her birthday :(.

He doesn't even have an Xbox360 :(

I'm more interested in CoD4 as 1 and 2 were brilliant :).

I've STILL yet to play COD2 on the PC....stopped after mission 2 about 2 years ago and never played it since. Played COD 1 to death, both single player and online, in a clan and stuff, twice a week matches with like 40 players, custom maps, those were the days.

I'll be picking up Assassin's Creed thou, i hope they put a pic of Jade in the user manual :p

An absolutely amazing game :)

A question, the SP is short so this game is all about multiplayer. What does this game offer in MP that games that have gone before it dont already offer.

Graw is a tactical MP shooter with loads of weapons/maps and game modes

R6 is a tactical shooter with loads of weapons/maps/config equipment and a cover system to make it realistic unlike that sidestep out into the open.

So why exactly will people still be playing this game in MP in december when the next generic shooter comes out?

5 hours for a SP game mode is pathetic imo.

I liked the beta but saw nothing that wasn't already out and done well.

I agree.

The seemingly now common standard of 8 isn't overly long imo, but 5 is just a joke. The length of games, fps' in particular, seems to be one of the main sacrifices gamers are having to make with the now current gen of games.

5 hours may be short, but its a intensive 5 hours that'll hurt your head and i expect it'll take a lot longer if you don't play it on easy, or normal

Both points are true, and the main way developers can justify shorter games is that 5hrs of gameplay now will usually be more detailed in most aspescts than 5hrs of gameplay from previous generations.

But, artificially extending the game through difficulty doesn't make it a long game. Most games will take longer on harder settings, this isn't a new thing. I usually judge game length on the number and size of included levels, as well as how long it takes to finish on standard difficulty.

5 hours does seem short compared to COD2 & 3 but I wonder how long it will really take me at Veteran level. (How long were COD2/3 at normal? ~ probably not the 2 weeks it look me!).

it does seem short, but the COD single player experience has always been the most intense of any FPS. i cant even put my finger on why....

i just remember that stalingrad level with your mates getting shot all around you. going into the fight without even a gun!!

I have no problem with a game being short on the single player side of things as long as the multi player is substantial enough to make up for it.

I've been going threw on veteren and i think it's going to take more than 5 hours, i did 1st 2 levels easy and now the 3rd level is on the streets and it's just crazy, you've got grenades, bullets & rockets coming from all over! The SP is really an amazing experiance, it's feels so atmosperhic and the a.i is really good unlike a lot of games where they just wander in to gun fire:p

as for the MP it's an experiance nobody should miss, it's faster paced than graw but not to hectic like halo 3, if you take it easy and try and be a bit stealthy you can end up with a good K/D ratio

Basically it's the best game i've played in a long time:)

People..can i just give a friendly reminder that the last time people discussed having/playing a game this far ahead of release the thread go deleted (PGR4). Please, just wait a few days yeah. We're all very jealous you have means to get it so early...but just bite your tongues for another day or two. :)
