2 of them! Why would you need 2 x 295's? I'm just curious, I mean it's your money and if you can then why not, but seriously, that's a lot of fire power and money :p

You better be playing all your games at 2560*1600!

There was a link to a review kicking about on the graphics card forum about quad Sli

heya, looks schweet, im not sure about the nvidia side of graphics at the mo cos ive only bin researching ATI but im pretty sure most people dont agree with the whole 295 model, lol summin about it being pretty much the same as summin a lot cheaper? however im not at all sure about that so blah lol. looks cool tho im sure it'll absolutely kick a** :)

wow guys thanks for the quick responses XD

yeah i know i just wanna go a little bit crazy and not have to worry about upgrading again for another 1 - 2 years. I enjoy building high end stuff so i figure if i got the money and i enjoy it what does it matter :P

Yeah im running everything on my 30 inch dell at 2560x1600 so i want something that will at least give me some half decent frame rates rather than a slide show.

do you think 12GB of ram is a bit excessive ?

Also do you think i should grad a solid state hard drive while im there for my OS or will a normal WD Raptor not hold me back that much ?

Cheers !!!

If you have the money (as it seems you do) you may as well get an SSD for the OS.

Am I right in saying that the 2 x 295's come in at over £1k?

10p shy with delivery :p

If you have the money then why the hell not.

I have to agree with ScarySquirrel, looking at the rest of the rig (namely1k on graphics :p) go for an SSD as a boot drive, it'll show a huge improvement and enlarge the e-peen even more!

12gb of ram won't really show an improvement over 6 in gaming, as they basically can't use all of it, even 6 wouldn't get fully used. Put the money saved on just getting 6gb towards an SSD.

"willy waving rig" omg that made me rofl ! Well yeah i cant be arsed to keep upgrading every 6 months to a year so i just i want something that will do me for 2 years, and 2x 295s come in at 988.98 so not over a grand but not far off !!!

Dya think ill be able to power everything sufficiently with a 850w PSU or should i get a 1000w ? My electricity bill is already 100 quid a month so i don't wanna get that extra power if its not needed :P

Thanks for all the responses i really appreciate it.

Even if you get a 1000W PSU it'll only pull what it needs, i.e. say your rig uses 600W, then both the 850 and 1000W PSU's will use 600W, it won't use more power, just give a bit mroe headroom. I'd go with 850 being enough, according to that review they were pulling just over 600W with the 2 x 295's. Just make sure it has all the connections you need.

speaking of the credit crunch not hitting me lol i work in banking believe it or not ! Even worse i used to work for Lehmans and got out just before they went under...

do you think 12GB of ram is a bit excessive?

Yes but then so is 2x GTX295..

The sensible side in me would suggest getting a standard P6T with 6gb ram and a single 4870X2 2Gb instead and save hundreds of ££.

Quad SLI has very little benefit over dual apart from benchmarks perhaps, and a single 295 is only about equal/marginally better than 4870X2 even though the 295 is £100 more expensive.

I'm not saying that you should'nt go crazy I'm just saying that money spent wisely is money better spent :)

cool speaking of the 4870X2 and the fact that the MOBO can take both, ya think i should swap the 2x295's with 2 x 4870X2's ?

That's what I would do, and what about a nicer case with some of the money saved? A Silverstone TJ07 or TJ10 would be nice with that setup? or one of the larger Lian Li, (Armorsuit PC80?).

And you HAVE to write up a build log on that beast so we can all drool over the pictures :D

Good luck with the build ;)
