Hey everyone, I just finished installing everything on my first build.

the problem is, I turn it on, the fans spin, leds are on, and after a few seconds, it shuts down. A few more seconds, and it tries to start again, and bam, shutdown.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

specs:
Antec 902 case
Gigabyte UD3 mobo
Intel i7 920 D0
Corsair 650w ATX PSU
BFG GTX 285

Did you remember to use the stand offs/risers as it's your first build?

If you have chck that the MB is secure and re-check all your connections are tight and secure - it's easy to overlook something.

I could run through all the checks for what needs to be connected, but it might be easier if you uploaded a couple of pictures of it.

Disconnect all non-essential components.

Just have the gfx, 1 stick of memory and the cpu connected and see if it will let you into the BIOS.

converted to links

I disconnected HDD, optical drive, and took 2 sticks of ram out, so i was left with cpu, gfx, psu, and one stick of RAM. unfortunately there's no change =(

Have you re-checked all your connectios - i know i mentioned it before but it's so easy to miss?

If you have replace the single stick for another stick - then try different slots (also check that you have used the correct DIMM slots)

Then try a skeleton set up out of the case - sitting on some cardboard/wooden table.

Might want to move the graphics card slot to the blue one closest to the cpu, some boards don't like the primary graphics in a different slot.

Edit - also check with your motherboard manual that the front panel connectors are in correctly. You only really need power_sw and reset_sw in to get it working.

If it boots outside of the case add components until it buckles.

If it doesn't buckle with all components added - then you need to look at the way it's fitting into the case -look for a riser positioned in the wrong place. (Look at the position of the risers once you have taken the MB out - double check that they're all positioned correctly with your MB fittings.)

EDIT: I forgot all about the pics - good spot andi.

My mate had exactly the same thing happen to him - I took a look and he just forogt the CPU power connector.
Wish yours was that simple . . .

Id check which PCIe is primary and move graphics to that.
Double check heatsink is installed correctly + its not overheating.

CPU....power...connector? that's the cable coming off the heatsink right? the one you plug into CPU_Fan?

edit: nvr mind, i've connected that one too, with 2x 4 pins

I think he was meaning the ATX 12V plug at the top left of the board - but yours seems to be plugged in. Also, your cpu_fan is in correctly, as i'm sure you're aware.

the two lights on the gfx are both green, no probs there.

the 4 phase lights on the mobo are green, green, orange, and red. apparently though, these lights are just for how much the cpu is being used, so i can imagine it would be max at startup.

heatsink is installed fine, same as pics in the manual.

the fact that it starts up i think means power comes in...but something triggers a shutdown. then it starts again, and shutsdown again.
