urgent help on 1st build!

Try removing all the cables connections from the bottom-right white area (F_PANEL). Then just reconnect the power switch. See if it turns on properly then.

Check underside of cpu for bent pins and clear cmos, with everything new sometimes not having gc or mem seated just right can also mess things up.

clear Cmos by jumping the pins with a screwdriver, would that be ok?

Should be fine, says so in the manual :)

You may also want to try the good old "Pull out the power plug, leave it for two minutes, reconnect, then see if it works", if you haven't already

As fob said, you should check under the CPU and see if any of the pins on the socket are bent.

while the plug is out just reset the CMOS again, for luck - and as it's your first build double check that your touching the correct 2 pins.

pretty sure im touching the correct pins, it says CMOS underneath, and they are the ones referred to on the manual.

put power back in...same old same old lol

This is indeed a conundrum. Have you had a look at the pins under the CPU?

If not, carefully remove the heatsink and remove the chip. The pins on the motherboard that interface with the CPU should all be vertical, any bent ones will stand out.

"bloody intel pushpin coolers" - damn right, it's cut my finger already =( still trying to get them off.

after much work, muscle pumping and 2 cut fingers, i've manager to raise 1 pin.

w00t.

time for the next one -.-

The guy who invented the push pin design needs one attached to his frontal lobe - as a permanent reminder as to what a PITA it is to use.

I've got a bolt thru kit tucked away for when i need to reseat my Akasa...

just while im taking a break from painful extraction...what if i remove the heatsink to find no bent pins or anything. what would the next step then be?

Do you have any graphics cards, Power supply units or DDR 3 RAM from other computers in your area which you can swap into your system? That could help to narrow down the problem.

Re-seating the heatsink and hoping that you had a very poor connection.

Before that you could see if the MB gives out any error beeps while the cpu is not installed.
