From Software will be developing again with series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki overseeing production alongside director Tomohiro Shibuya, who worked on the Monster Hunter series.

"Dark Souls 2 will offer loyal fans exactly the kind of demanding challenges and never-ending struggle that became the hallmark of this whole series," said the publisher.

“This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game. We have taken these necessary steps with Dark Souls II in order to evolve the overall experience of the Dark Souls series. The entire development team is striving to make Dark Souls II an experience that is fresh while not forsaking its roots in presenting players with challenging gameplay. Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with new experiences and plot twists while enticing new players to join our dark journey.”

Swear I heard something about this a while ago... Probably just a rumor... Anyway this is nice :)

Also soooo glad PC is confirmed off the bat, I hope that means they can make a good job of it this time!

Saw this mentioned on a comment on Dark Souls Facebook page and got up in an instant :D. Can't wait for this, 160 hours played on Dark Souls and still going strong. Not sure if I'll be able to wait until around this time next year or possibly 2014 :(.

Does anyone else want more reliance on dodging/rolling in the next game? I found in Dark Souls you could easily just block most enemy attacks with a decent stability shield and an okay endurance stat. I find the higher reliance on dodging in the DLC a hell of a lot more fun that just blocking every attack.

Depends, I don't want to go in as a tank and not be able to block attacks :p

Maybe if they make the shields heavier, so lighter characters have to rely on it more? Or something to that effect

:p. Yeah, they need to do something with the shields. Being able to have 40 Dex and investing 3-4 points in Strength and being able to wield something like the Eagle Shield is a bit ridiculous. Playing as a non-tank build against Artorias has got to be one of, if not my favourite fight in the game. Trying to block him is suicide so you HAVE to dodge pretty much all of his attacks, it's awesome :D.

It would be nice if they revisited the story from Demon's Souls at some point, Dark Souls has a great story and atmosphere don't get me wrong, but the first had some really great moments and locations.

Fighting the pathetic last boss in Demon's was a very powerful moment if you payed attention to the npc dialog and read a little deeper into the story, it was a real omg what have I become moment.

Killing Maiden Astraea was also something I regretted every playthrough.
