Dark Souls 2 - Thread

Bit of a bump, but didnt think it was worth making a new thread. Is this worth playing after I have completed Dark Souls? I keep reading on other forums that you should just skip 2 and go straight to 3, but is it honestly that bad? I can get SOTFS edition on CD keys for £8, which seems a great price.

I had never played a game like Dark Souls before, unless you count Witcher 3, but have been blown away by how good it is. It looked a bit rough to start, but after installing a hd texture mod and hd text mod it looks amazing to me. I really dig the art style, environments, atmosphere and just how much detail has been poured into the game. I've just rang the second bell and have put probably 40+ hours into it over the last few weeks. So after completing DS1 I was excited to start DS2, but the negativity has put me off a bit.

Is it still possible to level up a bit if an area is too hard like in DS1?

DS2 is superb overall get the season pass DLC as well. More of the same as DS1 but slightly easier gameplay & a lot more variety to the environment if you loves DS1 style & gfx DS2 will amaze you & DS3 is even better still. If you liked DS1 you will love DS2 then when your done with that move onto DS3 its the most polished game in the series. You can explore more in DS2 than 1 to level up not many areas are closed off at all but as always prepare to spend a lot of time doing this. DS2 is around 100 hours gameplay DS3 is around the same if you buy the GOTY season pass editions with all DLC episodes included. Some hardcore DS1 players dislike 2 + 3 as you no longer lose all items when you get killed but any true fan of the series loves all 3 games as they all have amazing artwork & atmosphere as well as challenging gameplay!!

Thanks, it sounds exactly what I was hoping for then. For £8 its worth a try I think as I paid next to nothing for DS1 a few years back and have had my moneys worth 10x over.

I wish Bloodborne was available on PC. I'm not sure I can justify a PS4 for it and a couple of other games :(.

Main difference in DS2 is the standard mobs stop respawning after you kill them 10 (or is it 12?) times. This means you can't keep levelling indefinitely, but also means you can clear areas with a bit of patience so you can run through them unimpeded. It also can screw up your farming for sets and items if you get a bit unlucky.

A lot of DS1 players disliked this change and I think this is where a lot of the criticism for DS2 came from. Well, that and the fact that the world is not as intricately designed in how it all links up.

I guess you could also say that the bosses don't really have the variety of DS1. There are basically a lot of bosses that are some variation on the "huge armoured guy with large sword/spear" theme. Having said that, though, possibly my favourite boss fight in DS1 and 2 is in the DLC for DS2.

It's still a terrific game, though, and still very much Dark Souls in style. I think you'd be missing out if you skipped it.

I think the consensus is that after DS1 it was hated because it didnt seem anywhere near as hard and the level design wasnt as connected. Having played DS3 a lot i have a new appreciation for DS2, it has some nice variety to it that 1 and 3 lack, and the DLC is some of the best out of all the games.

My main issue is you have to pump 20 odd points into an otherwise pointless stat just to get the i-frames of Dark Souls 1, and even then it still feels different. I can fully understand why people who pumped hundreds of hours into Dark Souls 1 wouldn't like the second as much.

Get Scholar of the 1st Sin, a couple of areas feel kinda tacky with how many new enemies there are and you just get unfairly zerged but overall it is a fantastic 'Enhanced Edition' type upgrade and the most challenging of the series.

2 is probably dead by now but it also has great PVP, vanilla PVE is kinda meh but it is definitely an underrated entry to the franchise.

Thanks for the replies, looks like its a definite buy then. I can't believe I have put the DS games off until a few weeks ago. It was even put into my 'bin' category in my steam library , now its one of my favorite games.

The less interesting bosses is a shame as the bosses were awesome in DS1, or at least what I have come across so far.

Thread necroooo!

So im playing DS2 again after what feels like years, im enjoying aspects but the janky hitboxes and ADP just ruin it. Getting hit by stuff when you are to the side of an enemy gets old fast, its a shame as i enjoy the locations and the DLCs are great, just the crazy hitboxes make you want to rage quit!

Yeah think I have the most hours in DS2, some good locations and enemies. It has some jank though you gotta play around. Probably depends on play style how many issues you'll have

After playing Ds1 360,pc, switch, DS3 twice, Sekiro Xbox then pc and Bloodborne a couple of times. Finally playing this as I got bored waiting for Elden ring and nightfall got delayed.

I tried a couple of times before. But just couldn't get into it, likely as I missed getting the Estus flask. I'm glad I went back. Enjoying it.

30 hours in just over level 100. At the... Forbidden woods if that's the right name.
One with invisible enemies, playing on "easy" as a castor, using hexes.
