Really? I just thought this was an abnormally large patch. I didn't realise it downloads the whole system each time.

As far as I'm aware its the full image each time unless I'm mistaken. Each patch is over >500mb? *Unless they've changed it recently.

Just be thankful its not GT5, swear that game is now just a digital download, the blu ray it comes on is mostly useless..

Takes over an hour to unpack and install from blu ray, then it downloads gigs of patches which can take hours upon hours even on the quickest of connections..

PS3 has become a bit of a standing joke with its constant updating..

Totally. When you consider how long it was in development for, we ended up getting a half finished game then just patched the rest...

Release now - Patch later :(

I'm sure half the issues with regards to installing the game is the slow blu-ray drive, hence why most games have a installation for the PS3.

I've got GT5, but not played it for almost a year. I assume I will have to book a day off work to patch it should I decide to play it again :p

It took me 4 hours in total to download all of the patches and perform the optional install of the game, that's only on a 5MB connection and starting from a totally unpatched launch version of the game. It's a long time, but it's not as bad as some are making out. As for the actual OS updates I've never found them to be very big downloads in terms of time taken, again I'm only on a 5MB ADSL connection, not some uber fibre optic or 50MB cable line. :p

That the thing, I'm on 120Mb Virgin and the PSN downloads probably max out at 10Mb and that is on a good day!

If I am grabbing something from PSN+ then I leave it on over night, its a shambles and it is as bad as everyone is making out.

You think 4 hours is not bad?

Lol .

I'm on shoddy ADSL that averages about 1.5mbit!

It's only going to get worse. The PS4 launch made it sound like a fibre line would be a requirement.

The update thing was my main problem with the PS3. It really did extract the urine some times.
I remember downloading the SOCOM 4 beta. Download took ages and then there was an update that took about 2 hours to download and then about 30 minutes to install. I think it took something like 4 hours in total before I could play it

are you wired or wireless?

are you using superhub in modem mode or router mode?

if modem mode what router are you using?

basically, wired is a lot better than wireless, especially on the ps3, superhub has extremely rubbish wi-fi and routing capabilities, therefore should only be used in modem mode with a high end router like an Asus.

Wired up to my PS3 with 76MB down and 18MB up and it's pitifully slow most of the time.

On Steam I get 9.5 MB/s most times whereas on PS3 I get between 1 and 2 MB/s :(.

steam have some of the best servers in the world, try and download off a normal site and see what happens. you cannot just compare what you get with steam to what you get on ps3, because i cannot think of any other gaming servers which come close to steam in terms of speed.

between 1-2 MB/s is good for the PS3 imo.

but i do know it could take me hours to download stuff before i went wired, router is in the next room as well, wireless is just terrible on the ps3.
