***1.4 GHz dual-core Sony Ericsson Xperia Duo***

They tend not to update correctly or they are somewhat erratic when doing so.

Robbo, I'm going to have to disagree with you.
I've rarely had a problem with my widgets updating. I have Facebook, Sickipedia, BBC news and the News and Weather one.

They aren't always tied into an app so it's yet another thing you have to have syncing.

Don't have this problem, and a bit confused by what you mean

If they do update, it takes a short time before they actually do update when you scroll to the homescreen, and in that time you could have clicked on an app, looked, and gone out of it (almost, anyway).
Again don't have this problem

Many of them are butt ugly and I really only like HTC Sense ones, and even those are guilty of the above.
Ha, I'll have to agree with you here!

In regards to the phone, I am quite excited about this. I really need to see how big it is as I feel it may be to big even for my hands! I really like the look of the Xperia range and can only hope this phone looks good.

I hope this is the start of the next wave of phones to come out for Q4 and perhaps Q1 2012

You are more than welcome to disagree. I expect other people will too but across approx. 20 different Android phones I've always had niggling issues with widgets.

They rarely do a good enough job to warrant not actually opening an app and I think all of them have the slight update delay. They just honestly aren't worth it.

I think the weather ones are the best but again, half of your main homescreen on the weekly weather forecast, really? You can check that daily by pressing the weather button just as easily.

There are benefits but they really aren't all that big.

With regards to this phone, I don't think it will be out for a while yet. Certainly not in the next few weeks!

Would you include all these time and clock displays as widgets?

I don't see the point in a weekly forecast on your homescreen, which is why I have just the temperature for the location I am in.

Clock widgets are usually ok, but even some of those take a moment to update :p

But is there really a need for those either? All phones have the time displayed at the top anyway!

Looks good to me, size not a problem (I'm currently a happy Dell Streak user), anyone with manly pockets will be fine and bigger screens are much nicer to use. That 2500Mah battery should be awesome, 2-3 days proper use out of a smartphone.

Won't be upgrading imminently anyway, when dual core big screen phones get down to around £200 next year I'll see what the pick of the litter is then.

:D Forget the notification bar, thats hidden on mine most the time.
I really think clock widgets are awesome, add a touch of uniqueness and (sometimes) class

Anyway, back to the phone. I'm holding my Desire at the moment and it seems like the perfect size of phone. Its not to wide and easily managable with just one hand.

It looks decent, just depends on how much it will set me back :p

However i won't probably get it, unless it comes in at under £400, but then i will have to consider SGS2 etc, unless this wipes it out with a killer blow?

Going to disagree with you on that point as well robbo :p

I have not had a single problem with Widgets at all and I have used a lot ranging from calendar, weather, social, news etc. And I have not had 1 problem with anything and this is on my Samsung i5700

Personally I think the Widgets are great, just simply scroll to oñe homescreen to see the info you want, and most of the ones that I have used all looked pleasant to the eye and you can customize some of them as much as you like.

Right now I am using launcher pro with slate skin skin for Widgets and fancy Widgets for my weather, clock.

same here :) no problems at all with widgets.. i think you're just being iosy robbo ;)

As I said, you can disagree all you like but in reality they don't make a blind bit of difference to me, and they do exhibit the problems I've described, but I imagine many people in here wouldn't admit it if they did have problems.

They can be nice, but overall I'm growing tired of them. I don't care for them at all.

why, whats up with the screen? do you mean the size of it 4.5"!!

Some people won't touch a screen that isn't AMOLED, and others won't touch a phone that is going to be as big as this.

Either of those things.

Widgets?

This could be the first phone rocking a 21Mbps HSPA+ modem and other geeky stuff like that. Who cares if Robbo's getting bored of widgets? Not me! ;)

Why would I care about that either? :p

I'm still very interested in it though, I don't have to use widgets

:D

Good spot Kona, I thought the US infuse 4G was the only one with a cat 14 modem. (Do our networks support those speeds? google time... :D)

I'm pretty sure they don't and won't for quite some time, which is why it isn't even remotely interesting in the slightest!

The possibly amazing camera and obscenely sized battery are where it's at!

I'll be looking for a good replacement for my HTC Desire at the end of the year, but 4.5" screen is just too big for me. Really don't want much more that 4" at most. Other than that, I'm sure it will be nice.

+1 ~ish.....my Desire contract is up in December, so good to see the sort of stuff coming out.....I agree that 4.5" sounds a little large, mind - guess will have to tinker in a local network shop ;)
