The Ryzen 2600 has a lot more resources then a i7 6700k.

The memory is a good point although 4gb at 1920x1080 should be enough for most settings. This might not be a RTX 3060 but it still wouldn’t explain the 100% CPU usage which would point to this being an RTX Ampere card which is a resource hog.

It doesn't matter in GTA V. I had a Ryzen 5 2600 and a mate a Core i7 6700 - the latter was quicker in those sorts of games and we had broadly similar dGPUs. If an RTX3060TI and a Ryzen 5 2600 can produce nearly 90FPS~100FPS at 1080p,then an RTX3060 and a Core i7 6700K,shouldn't be having issues "reaching" 30FPS. If anything the RTX3060 has less shader units,so will have less issues with slower CPUs.

Also, the RTX3060 4GB is more indicative of a faulty dGPU or more likely a fake RTX3060.

Very good point.

The OP hasn't even updated their BIOS too.

So what some should be suggesting here:
1.)Run a crypto malware scan
2.)Update motherboard BIOS
3.)Run the latest drivers
4.)Run the latest chipset drivers
5.)Make sure the CPU is actually not thermally downclocking,ie,the cooler is properly attached still,or at least sufficient to cool the CPU. Also check airflow in the case.
6.)Check it isn't some dodgy offbrand PSU,which is slowing going kaput
7.)Check the PCI-E port the GPU is plugged into is running at full speed
8.)Re-install game, and make sure the install is messed up in some way

And I would ignore similar people from the opposite side also. I’ve noticed one in particular, begins with D, and ends with e, sounds like rave ;)

There are options the OP has from both AMD and Intel.

This one side is better than the other, is ridiculous. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

What about the option of actually fixing the problem, instead of people here asking the OP to spend £100s they might not need to do!

Some on here must never ever play a single game,to think an RTX3060 and a Core i7 6700K is incapable of actually reaching 30FPS at 1080p.

People need to actually read what the OP is saying, and the information they posted.

Did you both have Ampere based cards?

Completely agree. I have a 3090 at the moment, but had a vega and 290x before that. Never had any driver issues with AMD cards but if you believed everything on here you would think they were dreadful. If intel offered the best mobo+cpu combo I needed then so be it. Being brand loyal is senseless. I know some people get burned and that's that but your only cutting off your options if you cant be open about it.

Games like GTA V,Fallout 4,etc used older engines, and Skylake tended to quicker. My mate had an RTX3060TI with a Zen+ CPU until a few months ago. So if a Ryzen 5 2600 with a RTX3060TI can easily hit 100FPS on GTA V at 1080p,then a Core i7 6700K with a RTX3060 is not going to be under 30FPS at 1080p.

This can be further proven by looking at laptops:
https://youtu.be/5NZPZXujEAc?t=64

A Core i5-10300H quad core(Skylake cores),running at a base clockspeed of 2.5GHZ with a slower laptop RTX3060 6GB 95W(not the 115W model),averages around 65FPS to 80FPS at 1080p. That is with the video stating screen recording was reducing FPS by 4FPS~6FPS. The Core i7 6700K has a base clockspeed of 4GHZ.

Also managed to find a test with a 4.5GHZ Core i7 6700K with an RTX3060TI at 4K:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA8XvMuV9w4

That setup is producing between 60~70FPS at 4X time the number of pixels needing to be rendered than 1080p. A Core i7 6700K and an RTX3070 is producing between 60~90FPS at 4K:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHSrUgFx3cc

The OP shouldn't be getting under 30FPS at 1080p with a Core i7 6700K and an RTX3060 in this game.

Either their setup is configured wrongly in some way, they have some really unoptimised mod installed or they have fake dGPU!

Definitely sounds like a software issue to me, that cpu isn't slow enough to be causing <30fps based on benchmarks other people have done.

+1 for cat the fith's suggestions and also installing gpuz to see what it says about the 'rtx 3060' as Joxeon says.

Hmmm because they are the only chips worth buying unless you want to step up to Threadripper.

rubbish some of the i5 chips are excellent value The I5-11400f is the best mid range cpu out there and the i5-11600kf is excellent as well

Are they? Pretty sure you can buy more performance form AMD and on a better platform.

TBH I’m pretty shocked that two users, maybe even three! of this site struggle to understand why someone would consider AMD the only CPU option. AMD have been outstanding. Years ahead of the competition in every metric and the obvious choice.

People once were that way about intel products.. (some maybe still are)

Yeah, from 2010 to maybe 2014. But then it’s was ZOMG another quad core and dead end platform. FFS Intel enough with the quad cores and 1.5% uplift per 18 months.

AMD are better at the higher end but in the low/mid range of CPUs it's Intel that offer the better performance per $ spent.

The 11400F is 10% slower than a 5600X but 40% cheaper.

If the soon to arrive 12400F has similar pricing then it will be not only cheaper but faster aswell.

You’re talking about the vapourware 11400F again.

AMD have better parts at the low end and on a much better platform. 1600AF and X570 for example.

not really a i5-10400f can be picked up for £120 on average with a b560 motherboard all cores 4ghz and 3200 or 3600 memory and its comfortably faster than a ryzen 3600 ( which i will add is min amd spec for battlefield 2042)

Really, really? or upset how poor Intel are really?

It's a waste of time arguing with Jigger, he has shares in AMD and a poster of Lisa Su on his bedroom wall.

I do actually have shares in AMD.

Not too keen on Lisa Su. Clearly an impressive woman, but not my type. Plus many would say I’m already punching above my weight.
