10GB vram enough for the 3080? Discuss..

What's the point here??? Are you inferring that the min fps is because of vram?

If so..... 4k run on the 3080 looked fine, not so much for the 6800xt though.... and we all know 4k uses far more vram than 1440p.... So once again, it looks like we have another case where if there is more vram, it will be used but it will make sweet f all difference to sheer performance/grunt, basically what we have seen time and time again as evidenced throughout this thread.

PS. here's "all" the figures and not selective nit picking ;)

Like I said in original comment, not a great comparison though especially given that there are clearly issues, it's bethesada... pretty much all their games are known for frame latency, textures, vram etc. issues.

Yeah, they still need to click the magical compress all button to compress 16+GB to under 10GB. Oh wait.

Unless they are suffering from some insane memory leak or bug I don't expect much to change.

Plenty Steam reviews saying that, after the tutorial, the performance tanks. Several of those users are running 3090's.

There was allocated and the other one. Can't remember its name.

The one that princess kept hammering on about

If the file is in VRam its being used, texture streaming is just that and the VRam is the fastest cache buffer for that streaming.

If you have a 2GB texture file that doesn't fit in VRam its moved to system RAM or streamed straight from disk, System RAM and Disk are slower than VRam so streaming the file from there will cause a slow down, and that's how you get inconsistent frame rates

Like the Blue line on the graph below

How much VRam a game will use is relative, will this game run on a 2GB card? probably not, will it run on a 4GB card, yes probably, will it run as well on a 4GB card as an 8GB card? No, will a 12GB card run it even better? Yes.

Apparently that video posted recently is useless due to the area tested.

I've just downloaded the game myself so will have a play later and see what's what.

That'll be what that user is referencing i bet.

Which then just further reinforces the point, a pointless comparison in the current state if even a 3090 is having issues.

:cry: was almost identical thought reading the post above.
Allocated, i remember his hymn book well.

Dedicated is more important though in my eyes as allocated only takes into account the game usage.

That's fine and all, but ultimately you have a operating system and background services and applications running too which require video memory and definitely impact performance.

The game has vram issues, there is no reason to talk about how much VRAM you need. Probably only the 3090 has enough if you don't play for a very long time. :D

Well, I posted the CB review summary and... ran!

Still true PC gamers all bought a RTX3090 and have no problem playing this even if the game has V-memory leak issues.

For those who want to play it safe, Nvidia also do the 48GB RTX A6000.
Indeed. AMD is simply not an option. 16GB does not cut it. You need 24GB at least!

:p

Meanwhile every game I have tried in my Steam library has run just fine on my 3070, I do not miss my 3080 at all. The only game coming out that I am interested which may struggle a little at max settings is Dying Light 2, but I am happy to turn down from Ultra to High as usually it makes very little difference anyway. Can always play it again later when my 4070/80 arrives :D

You'll always have the usual suspects waxing their carrots, it's par for the course here.

Most posts here are invisible to me

but I can already picture the circle jerk going on between a select few. :p

So far it looks like only Computer base has tested frame times which is the important metric, don't see any of that elsewhere as of yet.

Game does not even run for me without crashing it launch, so looks like a buggy release regardless of performance tbh. :)

Indeed. Happens on both sides.

Besides, who cares, it's only DEATHLOOP ;)
