10GB vram enough for the 3080? Discuss..

That is kind of the point - people are taking his information with a level of validity that is unwarranted when the facts come to light.

I agree in regards to a lot of wrong info that video, however there are various theories, like the AIB rebate, which I subscribe to, I am rather cynical when it comes to Nvidia.

So as per the topic of this discussion, ive got a 3090 FE and the new COD beta. At 1440p max settings it uses 14-15gb VRAM.

Was going to sell my 3090 and get a 3080 but wont now! Probably a sign of the higher vram usage from the new consoles....

The new consoles will use 10GB at most for graphics. The XBox has a 6/10GB split in RAM speed.

You really should have purchased the ASUS STRIX 3090 GUNDAM edition for maximum epeen :D

Used or Allocated?

Very different things.

Yeah, I think we've been led astray for years on this.

I bet it doesn't actually use that much. Allocate? Sure.

I get that but I don't think Nvidia benefit from AIB profiteering from demand spiking.

I'm not so sure they are profiting, if Nvidia is giving them a temporary rebate whilst also setting the price for GDDR6X/dies, they can appear to be the angel (sell FE at msrp) whilst charging AIB's more for the components making the AIB prices higher.

Ah, got you. That would be the cherry on top for this mess.

A horribly optimised example, but Tarkov uses almost all the vram on my FTW Ultra. Most other games use much less

Actually usage or allocated? Bear in mind the entire memory pool of the new consoles is 16gb, not just vram.

Think you find a 3080 will not fit into the new consoles so i can't see what the new consoles have got to do with a PC GPU

There was no mention of adding a 3080 to consoles. Where did you get that from? The discussion is as is the title, 10GB vram enough for the 3080? Discuss..
What I did say was that the next gen consoles would only be using 10GB of their total 16GB of RAM for graphics. So if the consoles can do 4k in 10GB or more often under, why can't the PC?

No one can possibly answer this question without benching identical cards with different memory configurations. You can't just look at vram allocated/in-use. This thread is just going to go round in circles until the 4080 comes out and no one cares any more.
