1366 X58 Xeon 5650

My bad I got mixed up I meant 20x200 for a solid 4GHz although I just read again you want to push it past 4.0. Could try 20x210 for 4.2? Silicone lottery eh :p

Speaking of dodgies why does CPU-Z say 4399.76MHz and a bus speed of 199.99MHz? Pedantic I know but it just bugs me when the validator says 4.39 instead of 4.40. I tried some of the older versions and it didn't happen there but the damn validators didn't work on the old version.

Yeah 200x20 is easy, been working like that for ages, just trying to get it above. Right now I have it on 182x22, which is also 4 GHz but it boosts to 4.2 GHz on 1-2 cores. Not worth it considering I'm losing 150 MHz of RAM speed. I'd prefer to just have 4.4 GHz flat (200x22) because I'm confident the chip can handle this, but there's no way it's going to cope with randomly jumping to 4.6 GHz sometimes, at least not with voltages I'm happy with.

With a few basic tweaks I had mine running at a gnats chuff under 4.2Ghz almost immediately after I installed it back in March last year. Still running sweet. :)

Quick update: I managed to stop the 23x multiplier kicking in by limiting C-states to C1. They can also be limited to C3 and C6 but these didn't work. Not sure what it's gonna do to power consumption but it's an option I guess.

Turbo is off when you manually overclock. Ensure speedstep is off. I personally disabled all C states as I found them to cause instability. Sure it probably hurts power consumption :p

My X5690 is currently at 4.4GHZ. 22x200. I have had it post and boot to the windows desktop at 4.6 at best, but was not able to make it absolutely stable :(. I also have my uclk higher than recommended, 1 higher than x2. It seems to give a little perf boost. Besides a slight advantage in the silicon lottery, these are the same as the x5650. Give it a try.

Play with the CPU Spread spectrum setting as well (disabled sometimes makes an unstable overclock stable at higher bclk. Keep CPU PLL at 1.8-1.9v.

Have you tried getting to 4.4 by using cpu multi 22 and bclk 200?

I've always had SpeedStep and C-States on, doesn't cause issues.

As I have explained numerous times, I wasn't able to do this because 200x22 resulted in 200x23 if only 1 or 2 cores were loaded, and 4.6 GHz wouldn't be stable. No with C-States limited to C1 I hope I can get to 4.4 GHz.

Mine is set to 1.35v in the BIOS, which after vdroop shows up as 1.328v in CPUZ.
Not surprised it won't boot with only 1.33v in BIOS.

My QPI shows the same as yours in CPUZ.

The SP120 (led) are great fans. Shame I can't say the same about the Triton.
Great at cooling, not so good at holding onto its water.

next time you check this thread can you post up all your settings for it? sorry if its a ****take fella but despite the variance of the silicone lottery i think i must be doing or setting something wrong.

Sorry I didn't count how many times this was explained...

Sounds like an issue with your particular motherboard as mine doesn't do that.

Good luck :)

Well that was a cheap upgrade

X5670 from MM for £50, sell the i7 920 for £25

Working fine on GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 1.0)

going to have a crack at OC'ing it now

Hey guys

I got a X58A UD7 Rev 1 with a Xeon 5650, 6GB G Skill DDR3-2000Mhz Ram, and a HD7970
Everything is under water, never tried to overclock it since I owned it back in 2010
Just upgraded from a i7 920 in the last week, and gained 20fps in Battlefield 1 alone.

Im looking to overclock to 4ghz. Anyone got a screenshot of their bios at a stable clock?

Thanks

Just whack VCore and QPI/Uncore voltages to 1.3 V, set BCLK to 200 MHz, and multiplier to 20x. Be sure to set your RAM speed correctly and then set uncore to one notch above 1.5x your RAM speed. That'll likely work and you can move forward from there. If not, try rising voltages a bit.

OK I'm having a bit of a hard time getting any overclock to work (I tried 3.5Ghz) to start with

I have tracked this down to the RAM

If I try the XMP profile (1.65V 1600Mhz) it won't post

If I manually set it to say 1333Mz it won't post

To clarify my sig I actually have 3x2GB Patriot and 3 x 2GB Corsair (could this be the issue?)

Thanks for the replies

will try with the 3 Corsair Dominator's

I use the RAM so I take it 3 x 4GB would be better than adding 3 (total 6) more Corsair's ?
