1366 X58 Xeon 5650

You have great cooling to contain the temps. I opted for an air cooler purely on the basis to avoid any complications that could possibly occur with an AIO. With my budget, a risk of a leakage with sounds very expensive.

It's not that surprising that your X5550 cannot reach 4.0 Ghz. It's essentially Bloomfield and my i7-920 could never reach 4.0 GHz either, no matter what I did to it. Ran it at 3.8 GHz for years before getting my X5650, which seems happy at 4.4 GHz (my motherboard less so).

I'm using the Noctua D14 on mine and synthetic bench at 4.2ghz was 53 degrees, not tried it gaming yet, but playing pube-g @ 3.8ghz it was max of 36-37 degrees which seems reasonably cool.

That's pretty good. Although the D14 is a monster of a cooler in terms of size, and performance it seems.

I have a Cryorig H5 Universal and I was wondering how much difference a second fan would make in push and pull config. and whether I should invest in one for the long run...

Hopefully the X5650 breaks the 4ghz mark without a fuss. I'll be happy with that. :)

I tried the X5550 in GTA 5 and it ran seamlessly with a GTX 1060, which I got from an exchange shop for £180 using a £70 voucher I had. Initially, I was planning to buy the 6gb card brand new but it was £80 more on Black Friday compared to the 3gb model, which was a rip off!! Suffice to say that I didn't choose the best time to build a computer! :(

Anyway, I received a Manli GTX 1060 in the post and was worried about resell value because I had never heard of them, until I did some research of course. Upon testing it though, I can't find fault with it. It hardly exceeds 60°C. It doesn't have a fan stop feature but it isn't loud under full load so all is good I suppose. Hopefully, it overclocks as well as it sounds.

Yeah I was shocked how big the cooler was when it arrived, it looks silly, but it's clearly effective!

I really need to research more on settings for my P6T deluxe v2 to get the the most out of it as cooling wise I could run it quicker, but when i go to 4.4 it posts but Windows crashes before load with an error. I've not messed with ram voltage or timings though as I'm pretty clueless when it comes to overclocking. If 4.2ghz is my limit I can live with that. It's only running 1.28 volts for a pretty good OC.

I run my U12P in push-pull because I can barely hear the fans anyway but I remember reviews at the time showing it only made a few degrees difference.

It should easily yes. It's on the same process as Sandy Bridge remember!

Yeah times are bad for PCs. They were even worse before AMD got back into the CPU game, and it's a big reason so many of us are still rocking X58 rigs! A new 6c/12t Intel chip would set me back £380, plus £200 for RAM and £150+ for a decent motherboard. And that doesn't even take into account GPU pricing! No thanks.

I'm only finding my feet with overclocking too so hopefully we can both become masters of this mysterious art. :p

If it's only a few degrees then I won't bother.

It's a shame that manufacturers aren't keeping up with the demand. Instead they're opting for the easier route and get the consumer to pay more. Helpfully by the time I upgrade, which will probably be a GPU upgrade sometime next year, the prices settle to something that is reasonably acceptable.

One thing is for sure, for the guys who have been running the X5650 and like for a few years have had excellent value for their money.

Use a Noctua D14 with a 5670.

That's a nice setup you have.
