1366 X58 Xeon 5650

I just got 12GB ram, and it turns out that with vtt 1.35v and memory controller at 3392MHz is not longer stable :(, but it looks like it is at 2968MHz.

Now, in IBT with stress level veryhigh(4096MB) it gets 74GFlops(with CPU temp 72C) the same as before, but with stress level at maximum(10511MB) it only gets 43GFlops(with CPU temp 60C) is that normal?

You have a Sabertooth, you're laughing tbh.

I strongly recall that the bclk was absolutely all down to the motherboard, not the CPU. Most pro overclocking guides on X58 all state that you should turn your multi down as low as it will go, then work out what your board can do on the BCLK first. Get it stable, then start adding multi.

It's very similar on high end AMD rigs. You work the bus first as it allows far, far higher clocks with less volts than simply cranking on the multi. I've never seen an 8320 or 8350 reach 5ghz on mutli alone, you'd need about 1.7v.

So always start with the base clock guys. Figure out where you can get to, then add the multi in after.

Sorry for not reading the whole 30 pages. I have got a chip on the way from ebay and i plan to put it in to a budget build for me to tinker with but my kids to use. I plan to use it in an Asus rampage ii board with 6GB of Corsair. I haven't got a case and cooler yet.
Can anyone recommend budget cooling solution to which would be capable of cooling the CPU at around 4Ghz (that's my aim). I have a Phanteks ph-tc14pe going spare at the moment which would be ideal but im hoping to use a smallish case so that will be too tall.
Thanks
Scott

I'm not sure but at stock my D14 kept the chip below 40c in prime95. 4ghz didn't need more than a tickle on the vcore and so I bet you don't need much cooling to do it.

4.2 and 4.4 raise the stakes significantly and at 4.4 I'm hitting 70c average across all cores with 1.375v on IBT.

I suspect anything well reviewed in the 30 quid range will do 4ghz without issue. If I had the time I'd give it a go on the stock cooler to see what happens but it wouldn't surprise me if it worked :)

Just got an alpenfohn k2 from the MM. It's shorter than the phanteks and according to the specs 1mm taller than a corsair spec 03 allows. I think I'll chance it and get the case ordered. :)

I'm tempted to try sli and this chip but I have the P6T SE anyone flashed this mobo with the P6T bios?

With the fact that the two pcie 2 lanes both 16x hamper two 970gtxs?

970 sli is pretty comparable to 780 sli I run. Sadly only at 1920x1200 at the mo. But a few guys I game with use the same cards on the swift and swear by it. I've used 2569x1600 under DSR which has been great.

I'm pondering not flashing and getting a 144hz 1080p monitor....or buying the rog 27" and hoping a single 970 will cut it but with the backup of knowing I can plonk another 970 in....

Ideally I'd like single GTX 970 and 27" Rog but I reckon turning settings down will bug me somewhat.... :p

well im running 980gtx sli on a asus p6t delux mobo with just a 920(waiiting on my 5670 to come) and it blasts through everything with ease and super damm quiet and cool for an SLI setup

The p6t deluxe is a great board for sli, (used to own one). At 1080p the 920 will bottleneck a bit even when clocked, but its less at 1440p. The new CPU will be a very nice addition to your setup. Loads of life in X58 yet. Also a much cooler running chip than stuff now like ib/hw.

I was an early nehalem adopter too, owned 2 such systems. Still have one which o might drop one of these chips into. But sli on it is a no no as the slots are too close, p6 x58 de mobo. My current Z87 board is dodgy enough with my cards in sli lol.

My p6t delux provides ample room mate for my 980s and trust me the 9xx series gpus run super cool!

Your getting rid of your 5670?

No i mean i will put the 5670 in it
