They are not riot officers, they were in a dangerous position and retreated until backup arrived. What's wrong with that?

You would need a group of officers in similar numbers to those they were up against to be able to control that and even then as soon as one of them uses force it would get sketchy.
What's the point in risking injury or worse on either side when as above you can retreat and call in a team equipped to deal with those situations.

To be honest there's a whole lot the council's could have done after the 1st day of everyone buggering off to the beach to discourage people from going again if they cared.
As to certain elements of society being emboldened to '**** the police' moreso now, yes the police should have followed the law instead of taking a knee and allowing the protestors to do whatever they wanted. Give people an inch and they will take a mile. This is entirely of their own making
There's very little difference between people heading to an area generally away from residencies during the day to people having raves in the middle of residential areas at night? There's very little difference between people going to the beach and getting turned away in their cars and people throwing missiles at the police when they're told to go home?
OK. Sure.
The police have shown weakness IMO and this has emboldened a very small number of particularly violent idiots. This will get worse before it gets better. These sort of incidents are just building up justification to go in hard and make an example next time. There will be a lot of crying when people are hit with rubber bullets down the line but I suspect there will be very little public sympathy.
Of course there will be sympathy, I think you're underestimating just how manipulated society has become.
Look at the difference in response, actions have consequences.

People are wondering about excess BAME deaths from Covid19... well no doubt lots of the gaps for various BAME groups can be explained by things like disproportionate health related risk factors (diabetes etc..), more likely to be poor and/or living in inner city areas... multigenerational housing etc.. and of course possibly higher chance of vitamin D deficiency being a factor...
Of course there might still be some discrepancy that needs to be explained - that could simply be an additional cultural/behavioural one of just not following the rules, still wanting to socialise/meet up, have music events etc.. Not that that is exclusively say a black thing but, at least in London, it seems to be an issue that involves a disproportionate number of black young people.
I do think, for situations like that where they're clearly unable to control and have to retreat (especially given that this has ended in injuries for officers plenty of times) they perhaps ought to be equipped with those large pepper spray cannisters you might see US cops use... that would have pushed back that crowd much sooner.

If you watched the video BW captured, it did did not show the lead up to their extraction from the car+handcuffing, to show how it escalated,
and no one asked BW during the press interviews she made, she didn't offer.
The police seem to have referred themselves for investigation, hopefully that will give a judgment, whether there was an inappropriate racial aspect,
perhaps that's the explanation for CD's anondyne statement.

I was pulled over by a black copper not long back, sadly though my race card must've been lost in the post.
That’s not important, what is important is that the police officers involved start taking a knee, admit their racism, check their privilege and seek to overcome their white fragility.

We need to send elements of every force in turn on an exchange for a few months with the Russian police. Then the Russians can bring some order to the inner cities by breaking some skulls and the British can be either re-programmed as effective officers or returned marked as "Only for mild kindergarten duties". The Brit officers also need some sort of electronic device such as they receive a strong electric shock should sensors show them going down on one knee, or trembling uncontrollably when on duty

Its also a bit like police detectives. If there is a crime they investigate, if there isnt they dont. I mean Im not saying she didnt over react but are you honestly putting up a video of black guy getting pulled over then being recognise by an officer that had pulled him over before as someone that is famous as some sort of statement?

So everytime someone gets killed by the police or what ever, we should look at all the times they havent killed someone to put it all in perspective?
I mean Shipman didnt kill all his patience so you might have a point. I do sympathise with the police as Ive been in a car that has been stopped and the driver over reacted and I just shrug when it means I also get dragged out and searched or run away as fast as possible if I can and then when its over I call my mate an ********.
No it appears it was carried over when the BLM post was deleted. That thread became a mess of conflicted argument on this traffic stop and other topics all mixed together.
