-£15K M5 E60

With a BMW warranty yes.

These are amazing cars and last of its kind, I might even buy one during my wait for the Mustang as I want to experience the V10. I also cannot see them dropping much below 12k and expect to see them start appreciating in coming months/years.

SMG, Actuators are items to watch for, avoid remapped or modified cars and if at all possible try to get one with a BMW warranty or the warranty extended by the owner at your cost.

but you have to have some real balls to own one without a warranty. As Gibbo said with a warranty its could be a lot of cheap fun but without you could be in for a world of pain.

Clutches, SMG if out of warrenty are like £4k or something ridiculous.

If you want to take a chance and spend 1/3 of the cars value potentially then go for it.

Would love to own one, but I cannot stomach that kind of repair bill. Many of them are falling outside of BMW warrenties now.

I'm not sure I would even touch one with warranty unless they are very flexible re the clutch issues ( I assume they cover the known gearbox probs without any problem)

Definitely get a warranty, a mate got an M6 for around 17K not long ago, he quickly ended up with a large bill for around £6k! Luckily the warranty took care of it all. It's been perfect ever since however.

The warranty for a 2006 m5 with 90,000 miles is £3,000 a year!

about the same a clutch replacment at BMW then!

Loved mine - the engine in particular. I had mine a while back and the red cog of death (gearbox issue - in this case, clutch died) at the nurburgring was sorted by BMW under warranty (including flights home, picking the car up from Germany and a hire car whilst it was away!) as the early cars had a known issue in this regard.

Didn't have any other issues with mine (would have hoped not as it was only 18mths old when I got it!) but have heard many horror stories since.

How much is an extended warranty on one of these? Still eye watering for normal people i imagine?

This car is not for normal people, there is nothing normal about a 500+ horsepower V10 that averages 11mpg.

Owning one without a warranty is a risk, but you might get lucky, some people never have an issue and get lucky, but you could be the unlucky one, they can throw massive bills.

I love these cars, the noise they make is just glorious! And they do seem to be a lot of car for the money, but maintenance must surely be eye watering.

How much does something like a set of discs and pads cost for example, I am guessing £1000 - £1500?

Any if something went wrong with the engine or SMG box I imagine the sky's the limit in repair costs?

They really did all that with you hooning it around a track? (sort of)

Was this a new one or second hand?

I had a full set of pads (no discs) done at a BMW dealer and it was £800.

Ouch!

That is crazy expensive! I assume that is why the price is so low for such an amazing car as the are 10 years old now and parts and labour are prohibitively expensive.

I would still love to own one if I could stomach the repair and maintenance bills.

There are so many other things to take into consideration when buying an M5, not just the warranty. Look at the cost of consumables and petrol and it's no wonder these cars change hands for so little money and have a higher than average number of owners.
