You've just completely prove my point. Second hand clutch?

Wat :D

The car was bought second hand who cares if the clutch is second hand aslong as it works as it should. Did you buy your car brand new? House brand new? Wife a virgin?

I can see the logic of a cheap clutch on a £500 car that you're not going to keep long. It's simply not worth the risk otherwise/in a different scenario. But as I said, for most people driving/owning these cars these days at this price point, there's no telling what lurks under the bonnet. Might be OK but it's a risk.

I hate it when poor people can buy expensive stuff built for 'us' for the price of beans, it's just not right, 'they' should know 'their' place. People called Danny too, I mean, that's nearly as bad as Wayne, who'd EVER let someone named Wayne own ANYTHING expensive, it's far too council estate of a name FFS.

Dats Wacist.

If it wasn't for the shocking gearbox, I'd look for one, as the last of the great V10s, but actually, I'd prefer the better drivetrain combo of the V8 E9x M3

After having had a look on ebay there's plenty of brand new ones sub £1k

Especially if you know people who can fit it, it certainly doesn't look like a vast bill to me in terms of running a car of that power.

A friend of mine had 3 gearboxes in his from new within the first year. I've a few friends who have had some big bills too. I've also had friends that have had zero issue but the risk is the bill if it does come with be big and if you are looking to not spend 3K it might still kick up a bill that is 3K even if you get the parts from Aldi and have dave the spanner fit them.

Yet we already have someone in here saying they'd go for a second hand £250 item instead. Proving my point.

I think (hope!) that Danny only said that as he knew he wasn't keeping the car long.

It probably isn't but the issue is that these are now £10-15k cars and a clutch thats £1k in parts alone *is* a vast bill for £10-15k cars.

I can think of plenty of sub £5k cars that can give £1k parts bills, let alone £10-15k cars :p

Sure, it's a decent chunk of money in relation to the car's value, but to be able to drive around in something like that for £15k plus an extra few k per year in repairs seems like a bargain to me.

I always think that if you avoid being a total chav by fitting used parts and linglong tyres, but equally do a bit of research rather than running screaming to the main dealer, older, high powered cars such as these can make sense. I'll be putting my money where my mouth is with something similarly ruinous in the next year or so, and if it all goes horribly wrong you can all look back at this thread and laugh at me!

These thoughts have recently popped into my head with regards to purchasing a 645i or 650i. Set aside a bit from the original purchase budget for some preventative work that could be bashed out upon purchase and hopefully negate future niggles.
