Xfire 5870's out perform a 5970 so I can't imagine them not beating a 480 with ease. As others have said a single 5870 will be there or thereabouts.

I just don't see how that can be true. The 5850 is only a little faster than a GTX 285, so that means Nvidia's whole new architechture in the 470GTX is only a little faster than their last generation card?

I mean, surely not.

sorry.. what is the thread about?

Basically, close to the time of a highly anticipated GPU launch an employee of OcUK will basically just post up a smiley when OcUK receive them. It is a fairly pointless exercise which just results in certain forum members acting like the have had too much fizzy pop.

I have NO idea if the figures shown are accurate but do recolect that when the 5850 appeared the tests (with,of couse, immature drivers) showed that it was not that much faster than the 'old' 4890.

So might be a similar situation here.

Will an OC'd 480 (now were back on a level playing field) beat an OC'd 5870 ?

Based on the reported idle and load temps of the 480 I would say probably not. The reason being a 5870 has lower temps which means it will have more head room for a larger overclock. Of course this is all speculation based on the benchmarks and articles we have seen......
