So 680 and 7970 pretty even in any kind of day to day use with OC potential yet to be tested.

680 might be a few quid cheaper and little quicker at 1080p, at 2560x1440 (which I use) the looks like 7970 (single or in xfire I guess) may have a slight edge, perhaps down to the 3GB of VRAM vs 2GB.

So with minor fps differences in different res depending on the game/driver/overclock and £20-£30 (ish if the 680 is £390ish, most etailers have reference based 7970s at £415ish) in cost it's pretty much a draw this time round with no one really losing out no matter which they chose.

Good for competition and choice and options around preference for eyefinity or cuda etc.

Funny watching fanboys bait each other, gloat and argue - why anyone would hold a fanatical loyalty to a manufacturer whose sole purpose is to take money off you seems a bit.. well... odd. :D

Have to agree...

However on the whole I much prefer Green. I've just had better driver experiences, and general experiences with them in the past. Saying that I may well be tempted back to Red once I'm out of uni and have a 3 screen set up...

Just because I prefer green personally though doesn't mean I'm not going to tell someone to get Red.

Bit like RAM really... I'll happily recommend brands other than Corsair, but if I was parting with my own money, I'd much prefer to pay the slight premium and buy Corsair, despite the fact that there is very little reasoning behind it...

Indeed. Think I've had a fairly even mix over the years. I was hoping to go green this time based on initial reports of the 110 performance coming early this year. As I'm gaming at 2560x1440 it was my hope for a single GPU solution but as it became clearer neither would be able to do that res on a single GPU this time round i switched to 2x 7970 for 3GB and anecdotally XFire has historically worked better for me that Sli for some reason.

In either case I don't think other than bragging rights either colour is going to lose out this time leaving choice to personal preference and support of specific features you might require.
