As much as I want to upgrade my 5870 I think I'm going to wait to see what happens to prices once the 680 lands, you'd have to be insane or a fanboy to jump on a card on launch day at these prices.

It was much easier to buy a card on launch day when the 5870 was launched and I only had to pay £300 for it.

Is it unreasonable to expect the 7970 to hit £350 now that 680 will be around £400 at launch and with it being faster?

There is talk of the gtx680 being the fastest at 1080p but at higher resolution and multi monitor gaming this may not be the case. Kyle from HardOcp said this

"We have 2560 and 5760 coverage coming your way. Not the same story as 1080P."

They usually dont feature 1080p much in there apples to apples tests but it looks like they have to this time as it looks like the gtx680 has a much better time at this resolution or a bigger lead. It could be that the gtx680 is a better card for the majority but as the resolution goes up the 7970 catches up or takes over.

Presumably this is only a VRAM limitation issue, so when the 4GB versions come out we'll see this reversed? Or do we think it's something to do with the card itself, rather than just pure VRAM

There's going to be a bit of an issue there if a 7870/6970/580gtx all give decent performance at 1080p, and a 7950 spanks it. But at higher res/surround a 7970 spanks a 680gtx..... then where does the 680gtx even fit. its got a huge amount of shader power, and limited bandwidth(less so memory) meaning in the more extreme setups, the 7970 is likely to be significantly ahead.

So will AMD have trouble shifting them if for higher end setups with 3 screens or huge screens, its faster, maybe much faster, and a 7950 is awesome value/performance + huge overclocking headroom and will probably end up pretty indistinguishable from a 680gtx at 1080p anyway, and ahead at higher res still.

Of course, if after a while 680gtx sales slow for the same reason, and prices drop that could cause AMD to reduce prices also.

Lack of bandwidth mostly, memory limits effect some games, not most, 2gb cards have been doing fine with the vast majority of games in 3 screen setups, though power wise you generally don't run 3 screens and lots of AA also.

Problem being there again is that 4gb version will end up priced noticeably higher, making the 3gb 7970 still fine at that price, and its likely due to lack of bandwidth that super high res situations are still way in AMD's favour.

Any comment on any value-add between the Add-Ins?

I assume they are all 100% reference hardware wise and the only USP will be warranty, bundled software and cables?

Gibbo will you be doing any SLI deals? like the 6 series releases a while back? i.e i remember you selling 2x6950s on launch for about £20 less than buying seperate as a package.

Also is there many EVGA stock?:p
