2006 Cooler Master Mod Competition

Add me to the list with my 620 (funds permitting) although timescale will be a bigger problem.

working up a fanless design idea (maybe just the PSU fan) that I'll float to all intrested when I've done some more research, as i need some unattached heatpipes and 6-8 specifically shaped heatsinks.

Ive got a couple more bits to get sorted out yet, but they are minor - low-profile Coolermaster s478 HSF and another RAMsink thing.

This may be a very stupid question, but does it have to be a working system?

To be honest I'm not sure how they could tell (working or not)
I'd put a load of hardware in there so it looks like it could work anyway.....

True - unless they asked for a screenshot / digital camera style of it working. I would think most people would be making a working system so it probably a mute point in any case.

nope they do not ask for screenshots of it working, but it helps cos i need a working pc :p

anyway after 2 days work i have one panel sanded too 1500grit and waiting for polishing tomoz :D

Just to let you all know, sorjorla has justed posted a clarification of the Coolermaster products rule over on the CM forums.

Since many of you have questions on defining CM products, so here is the definition:

Any visible Cooler Master product as 1 product. If you can prove that, thermal paste can be counted.

For example:

1x Cooler Master 80mm fan = 1 product;
2x Cooler Master 80mm fan = 2 products;
1x Cooler Master 120mm fan = 1 product;
1x Cooler Master Cable = 1 product;
1x Cooler Master PSU = 1 product;
1x Cooler Master case = 2 products
and the list go on and on...

Every single piece of CM product counts -- Product is something that has retail value -- CM logo sticker, CM t-shirt, CM poster, CM keychain and so will NOT be counted!

We strongly encourage contestants to use some of our signature items like case, PSU, coolers etc.

This should be good, i wish i had the time and the need for another case to enter this. I wish you all the best of luck and hope that someone from here wins, i'll definatly vote if thats how it works.

So do you all have worklogs on the CM website then?, if so would it be possible to put links to the worklogs on here?.

Oh handy, 2 fans counts as 2 :)
shame I've only got onwe, but another one shouldnt be too hard to find :)
Not 100% sure if I'm gonna make the 5 items yet.

Has everyone decided what they are going to do for this?

Yep - I got a second hand atc-500 case which I am planning on using. Got another two ATC-500 brand new still boxed so not too worried about attacking this one with a dremel.

The only thing I need to source is a slot loading slimline dvd drive. I dont think my normal slot loader will fit into the scheme I have in mind.

You got a pretty good idae of what your doing then!

I'm gonna get the case.... then make it up as I go along....
Thinking of making it shiny :D
Not to forget the obligatory windows!

Does the top panel come off easily? (ie with screws)

can you enter even if you haven't got a coolermaster case? would 4x 120mm fans count as 4 items? if i get my overdraft sorted i might be tempted to go for it with my home made case.

No need for a coolermaster case so long as you meet the minimum CM product number criteria.

The top does come off the ATC-500 - in fact I am planning on drilling out all the rivets hold other bits together and replacing with screws.

Well that rule clarifiation makes it better for me. That 1xPSU fan 1xHSF fan(Although still toying with the idea of a waterloop, but I need the smallest waterloop in the world) 1xColdCathode 1xIDE cable and something else.

The Clarification if parts is cool, i'll copy that into the op.
(got 4 fans in my case lol thats enough with the case!)

No CM case is needed to enter, however it does give you a head start with it counting as two items.

the system doesnt have to be working as i understand it, it's purely about modding the case, although to have HSF and PSU etc.. it would be better if it were working. I need to get myself a cheap Motherboard/CPU/RAM cobo to go in mine -anyone want to donate?

I actually got to do some work yesterday and drilled out all the rivits (thought about using screws as well so when you know what size they are please let me know goreblast), and drilled some new holes, but i'm crap at getting them in the right place! also came across a stumbling block though with the way my side panels fit in.

There are no work logs yet, but i think once the CM closing date has gone everyone should post work logs on OcUK and as said earlier we can then set up a poll for OcUK memebers to vote for their favourite mod.

Messiah is that to enter your Android?

Yup. I might as well try and include som Coolermaster parts, then if I manage to finish it in time I can enter it.
Mate i think you'll be in with a very good chance of winning going on what the Judges will be looking for. I hope so anyway as you've put loads of time and effort into it. I dont even think it'll matter too much if it isn't 100% complete, if you could get the painting done by the deadline it'll be sweet.

I cant wait to see what everyone else comes up with as well. Going by some of the work Ive seen on here there should be some pretty decent cases being entered so could get a few winners from here.
