2008 Belgian GP - Race 13/18

Not sure if its already been mentioned before but anyone remember the Massa and Kubica fight in Japan 2007 ?

Japan '07 is a fun one for those of us who are labelled "Hamilton Haters™" by the retarded squealing tossers that seem to inhabit most corners of the internet (please note - I am not talking about anyone on here with that comment). Hamilton netted himself a "trial by Youtube" post-race, for behaviour that can only be described as "******* retarded". He played silly buggers behind the pace car (accelerating then slowing down slightly hard on the racing line, on a wet track), and caused an accident that took out Webber and Vettel. Vettel got the penalty (later rescinded), Hamilton got off scot-free.

Now....I'm no expert, but as far as I'm aware there's a rule about causing an avoidable accident in F1. And that one was very much avoidable if Hamilton hadn't been a complete dick. This is what makes it hard for me to rate him higher than I already do (i.e. high enough to get all these hooting knobbers off my case....).

He's a great driver, no question. He's fast, he can adjust to changes in the track/weather/car in a snap, and he's proven that he can beat The Petulant Spanish Git™ in equal cars.

And yet....there are moments where you have to question just what the hell is going on with him. Brazil '07 - why try and attack Alonso the way he did? He was always going to go skating off the track. Being in his rookie season is no excuse - that's the sort of thing you learn waaaaaaaaaaay before F1. Bahrain '08 - he had a shocker. Hit his former team mate and never really recovered. Canada - the least said the better, that was just beyond belief. Anyone who crashes into the back of a stationary car in the pitlane with a red light in operation deserves every bit of derision they get. France - again, a shocker. He'd been down the order on account of Canada and got himself worked up.

And there are even more subtle things going on that make me wonder about him. Take Valencia. He had the flu, so didn't really get on terms with Massa at all. The flu. Now, having had proper, full-on flu I can almost sympathise. But come on....he's supposed to be The Messiah™! Christ....Sir Stirling Moss won the '58 Argentinian GP one eyed (he had a bad scrape on his cornea) with a broken clutch and without changing tyres or refuelling in a rather underpowered car. Nigel Mansell ran his first F1 race with his rear end immersed in fuel (giving him 1st and 2nd degree burns), and later ran a race (Hungary '88) while suffering from chickenpox which did him no good at all.

Hamilton is the real deal, and he will win a championship. But he's not quite right yet. He makes fundamental mistakes right when it really matters, and he simply shouldn't if he wants the title this year.

So you can download them separately and watch when you want? Tell me more!

It appears so. I was just clicking on the highest quality link and it was doing nothing. It seems the download manager recognised the flv file and downloaded it automatically for me.

Nice. :D

Some stats about the 2008 season so far.

Most reliable:
Mclaren and BMW - 2 failure to finish each
Ferrari next with 4 failures

Most laps completed:
Nick Heidfeld with over 99% of the laps completed.
Kubica second with 96%
Trulli third with 95%

Most team laps completed:
BMW - 98%
McLaren - 94%
Ferrari - 92%

Best Qualifier:
Hamilton
Massa
Kovalainen

Can't say that I'd noticed that BMW were that reliable tbh, but they're almost always running at the end.

Also, all of Ferrari's failures to finish have been engine related. *They became external combustion engines*

Try IDM. Can download stuff from sites. Can be annoying though if not set up right as will try and download mp3's from those stupit adverts on some sites. Also allows you to rip FLVs from sites, i.e youtube.

Not all of Ferrari's failure to finish have been engine related.
Kimi stuck it in the wall on Sunday :p

D'OH!

It appears that I haven't updated this spreadsheet yet. *oops*

Ok, so thats as of the last race.... Ummmm.. Bugger.

Edit:

Actually, it has been updated - it's just that in Australia, Raikkonen's engine failed but he was a classified finisher.... So they've had 4 failures to finish and 4 engine failures, but they're not necessarily related..

i dont understand that comment? when did kimi pass under yellow flags?
if they mean when lewis ran off the track then its a bit stupid as lewis was off track kimi was not

He only ran wide off the track to prevent a crash, Kimi still overtook under a yellow flag condition.

What are Ferrari engines reliabilty like across the 3 teams that use them?

Ferrari Engine failures:

Australia 2008
Massa - Lap 29
Raikkonen - Lap 53
Bourdais - Lap 55

Malaysia 2008
Vettel - Lap 39

Bahrain 2008
Vettel - Lap 1

Hungary 2008
Vettel - Lap 22
Massa - Lap 67

Europe 2008
Raikkonen - Lap 45

8 failures across 13 tracks with 6 starts per track. So %age wise...

Just over a 10% failure rate overall.

But, for Ferrari and for Toro Rosso alone it works out at 4 failures each which is a much worse 15% failure rate.

^ that's pretty good footage. Raikonnen clearly gets a HUGE advantage by going off track for so long.

Also interesting that Raikonnen is clearly seen reducing his engine map (torque level) about 2 or 3 times and that his car pretty much immediately started handling like a dog when it rained.

You can see why Raikonnen said it was "all of nothing" because if he slowed down even more then he would have lost even more pressure and temperature in the tyres and things would have got even worse for him!

Does that include Monaco when he drove into the back of Sutil?

Is that 3 races he is classed as a finisher but didn't finish in then?? Isn't he down as a finisher for Belgium too?
