Superb end to a great exciting season :D
The best driver won, period..... Until another young gun comes along and does what Hamilton did (ie broken pretty much all records) then it's clear to see for anyone with half a brain that Lewis is in a class of his own!!

Loving all the bitter and sad FIArrari fans crying like the losers they are :p

Well done Lewis, your a great ambassador for both country and moto sport in general!!

He's not even the best driver on the grid now, let alone waiting for another young gun as you put it.

Alonso is the best driver in my eyes. Not sure if its the same for everyone else.

Congrats to LH ,respect to Massa on the way he conducted himself and thank **** thats the last time we have to rebuild a DC car!

Bring on 2009.

Oh btw get some better engines. ;)

wanted the whole GP. oh well ill record the highlights anyway :( so ****** off :(

I wouldnt worry, your not going to miss much action and im sure ITV will show all the last few laps which is where it got interesting. On another note there are some incredibly stupid posts in here tonight. Massa lost the title by 1 point and people are jumping up and down declaring a fix? Oh come off it, Massa gaining a point in Japan was a fix as was gaining an extra 6 in Spa. Both drivers have had there share of fantastic drives, dire drives and bad luck this season. Im gutted for Massa, he has come along way in the past few seasons and to have lost the title on basically the last corner of the last lap of the last race shows that he has what it takes. Im also glad that Hamilton took the title, he has shown that he can drive a measured race and has learnt from past mistakes. As for the race today, nobody expected Massa to do anything but win which he did fantastically. Hamilton just didnt seem to have the pace even though he was only driving for fifth which nearly cost him dear. Best man won the race and in my eyes the best driver took the title.

Random fact:

Last British driver to win the Championship was Damon Hill in 1996. The very same year in which BBC last aired F1 races.

Lewis Hamilton is the new Champion just as ITV finish airing the F1 races

:D

Im really not sure Hamilton has learnt that lesson yet. Hamilton didnt grab the title with both hands today and declare it his, that would have been to drive at the front and pressure Massa all the way. Hamilton seems to fixate on playing it safe, driving ONLY for 5th when you require 5th for the championship is going to land you in situations where it may, or may not work out. Untill he masters this mindset he'll never be the complete driver

Well that's a matter of opinion isn't it. I think he is.
Agreed. He has done what MS did which is to win the title in an inferior car. FM is a great driver, but struggles to move through the field. He is driving the best car, a car which isn't as hard on it's tyres. He is also significantly more experienced than LH (who is the youngest EVER world champion btw) and he has had the experience of being no 2 to MS.

Alonso is a cracking driver and that Renault has been getting better and better, but EVERY race he's won/done well in has been as much the result of good luck or excellent team strategy/judgment. Sure he's a skillful driver but I really don't think we've seen enough this season to say he's the best. KR has lost interest, which is a shame as he's an excellent driver and was a worthy champion last time out.

Vettel is an interesting one and I'd dearly love to see him in a Ferrari/McLaren to see exactly what he could do. The Torro Rosso has the Ferrari engine which has been a top power plant and the team seem to be fairly wealthy to say the least. It has been good to see him come through and if he keeps going I can see him being a world champion (would LOVE to see that for Red Bull!!!)

Kubica is a funny one, seems to lack consistency and just seems a touch jaded towards the end of the season. That is a shame in many respects as he seems to be a genuinely good driver.

As things stand, Hamilton has won the WDC and after some interesting decisions from the stewards, who should have left the drivers alone to actually race. He would have won more than Massa and have tied everything up in China if Spa's result had stood and anyone can see that he was by far the best driver on that day.

We are lucky to have so many good drivers around. We also have the internet and massive amount of media at our disposal. Whilst MS was somewhat subject to this spotlight towards the end of his career it was nowhere near like it is today. Senna, Prost, Piquet et al didn't have anywhere near this level of pressure. Their every mistake was not continually replayed right around the world ad available for 6 billion people to view every minute of every day. There was the odd replay but that was that.

Here's looking forward to next year with slicks and less rubbish aero.
