Its to actually promote people running on Friday to give the fans something to watch. If they had to use the race engine, then the teams would likely run as little as possible on Friday. No good putting on 2 90 min sessions if people only do 10 mins to save their engines.

I'm still not sure about it. As teams who did more running, although might ever so slightly compromise their engine, would ultimately have a much better setup than the teams that did less running.

Which commentators? I'm in an F1 chatroom with people from all over the world and not one person mentioned it.

SPEED channel, it was definitely mentioned that Hamiltons engine was from a dodgy batch, not sure if that's the one he was using in practise or his race engine. I was only half listening.

Presume they mean his practise, as the race engine seemed fine in China.

I've not looked it up but how did Kovalainen finish in the last couple of races as I think they said the engines are the same batch?

LH finished 9th or something - 8 tenths from Alonso, but whatever the reason why he is slower than this morning (comparatively) , he is still likely to be in the top two rows for quali

I know there is meant to be rain for the race (and there was a little today by reports I read) but what about quali - what are the forcasts?

His engine is from a dodgy batch with air pressure problems, so he's supposedly nursing it. There's talk that they might swap his engine out after qualifying.

That's FUD... no idea where those commentators plucked that from.

McLaren said earlier this week that they would be using a special engine map for practice... a map that is even more conservative than the normal one that they use for situations like this!

So, Alonso posted the fastest overall time for Friday. Interesting that he was able to do that, bearing in mind that Ferrari are probably running a very aggressive engine setting.

I think in qualifying tomorrow, Hamilton and Massa might occupy the front row with Kimi in 3rd.

I was reading an article today in a newspaper. Apparently McLaren are hoping for a 1-2 finish (to win the Constructors title). I thought to myself, the only way they will achieve this is rain takes out the 2 Ferraris, the 2 BMWs and Alonso, as Heikki doesnt have the ability to beat any of them, on merit.

If Kimi and Alonso can get close to Hamilton in the race, he might panic (as he has a habit of doing) and make a rash move. That is probably Ferrari's best chance. Massa would be best off trying to win from the front, leaving Kimi to play games with Hamilton, assuming he can get in front of him.

The title is no by means a forgone conclusion.

First time I will be able to watch a proper grand prix for over 2 years just been made redundant so have the weekends off now

And I know Hamilton will win for us Brits

very cool, too low down though... Surely that isnt "all" the driver sees? i know they say they sit low, but u cant see the road at all through that view, and i thought the camera was mounted higher up then his eyes! lol

Yep, its in the mouth part of the helmet, needs to on the forehead really or behing his visor just above his eye line.

Great idea though, maybe they will change for race.

Its Premiere LIve the german interactive channel, rumour is the BBC will have some interactive-ness next year.
