2008 British Grand Prix - Race 9/17

Lets not forget that it rained in Q2. The track wouldve been drying in Q3, thus each passing driver wouldve been making the track greener so to speak.

I thought it rained at the end of Q1. Alonso was first out in Q2 and it had stopped raining for at least 5 mins by then. It would have been dry for the start of Q3 easily.

Also didn't someone go out at the end of Q1 and set an improved time? That was the impression Steve Ryder gave in the break between Q1 and Q2. If so it can't have rained that hard.

i think hamiltons mistake was driver error, carrying a lot of speed through the apex and missing the rumble strip ?
yeah bourdais set the fastest first sector of anyone during Q1 iirc because the drying track gave more grip apparently

But tbh... if Kova doesnt win it tomorrow, he really has no excuse. He has potentially the best car of the weekend, just like Hamiltons. If he doesnt win it, he will rate as just another Fisi or Barichello to me.

There is ALWAYS an excuse for why Heikki didnt finish higher up in the points at virtually every race.

But, lets wait to see what he does today. He is on pole, in the best car and in theory, should be able to control the race from the front.

If the McLarens want to win, I doubt the Ferraris can stop them. The problem is that Hamilton is very hot-headed as we are now finding out and this could be his undoing. This is why I have always maintained that although he had a stunning season last year, this year will be his make or break season. If he does well in 2008, then he can look forward to a record breaking career. If his hot-headedness keeps getting the better of him, then chances are his entire career will continue in this vein. Very few drivers in the past have managed to completely change their driving style and mindset, as their career progresses. If they become World Champions and dominate F1, then they did so right by showing that form right from the word go.

It should be an interesting race.

LOL. Thats cruel.

There are people at Honda working very hard, being paid large sums of money. I think we all know Honda are crap, but who knows, maybe they might do something next year. Or the next. Or the next. Or the next...

the whole problem with stopping 2008's development, is that 2009s car will be based on a 2008 mid season car, which puts them behind AGAIN (ie top teams will develop there cars to like race 16, then next years car will basically be race 16s car with a overall rework/redesign/refining...)

they need TWO programs, one developing the 2008, and testing new ideas, and then the 2009 car will be the bits that worked in 2008, plus new ideas.

each year however they give up, and concentrate solely on the next year, which hasnt worked for the last 4 years, so why will it work now! :(

it also shocked me that BMW may be doing the same.... :(

Thats not what you said. You said teams develop a car upto race 16 and develop the new car from there. This year that is especially wrong.

i thought the 2009 car was quite a radical change in aero package? in which case the 2008 car wouldn't be much if any of a platform to build on?

in your own opinion do you think we are going to see more of a spread across the different teams or will they all conform to the same basic design?
i for one would like to see what different teams can come up with regarding the new regs :)

Worth putting Radio 5 Live on this morning - they are reporting from Silverstone on and off.

Rain ;)

I'm watching bbc news in the background and i'm already fed up of hearing "Lewis is starting 4th" instead of Well done Hekki and Webber... tbh the fact that Webber is second (hopefully on similar fuel) is much bigger news that hamiltons very average 4th place.
And whoever was coulthard bashing earlier, leave him be. In Q2 he was closer to webber than hamilton was to hekki in Q3, yet i dont hear anyone saying mclaren should dump lewis because hekki is obviously the quicker driver. Yes yes, i know that Lewis may be running more fuel but surely if 10kg fuel costs 1/10th theres no way lewis is carrying 80kg more fuel than hekki?!

Pretty much, uniform mid wing section,no barge boards etc etc

Oooooh reminds me, my Dads coming to your factory soon, his company are helping develop the technology that recycles the heat?/energy? back into the car. The new thing theyre having to bring in to help improve the cars carbon footprint. He did tell me but ive forgotten sorry!
