2008 British Grand Prix - Race 9/17

I love this time of year. Sadly no Ralf Schumacher to laugh at this year, claiming he'll be world champion or something.

Shame to see DC going, one of the Sebastians going to replace him then, I guess? Hopefully Vettel.. I really think that boy could be good.

Oh you are so cruel, poor Ralph! Funny though :D:D:D

I'm going guys, cant wait.

Going track side and will be going on a pit lane walk!

Dead excited haha.

I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and get em hosted asap when I get back to my brothers.

I just hope I get a glimpse of Lewis, and the babes :D

From ITV-F1:

Dad pulls Lewis out of Button triathlon

Lewis Hamilton’s father Anthony has put a stop to his son’s plans of competing against Jenson Button in a charity triathlon.

Hamilton accepted his fellow British driver’s challenge to compete in a swim-bike-run event later this month in Thursday’s press conference at Silverstone, after claiming he was fitter than Button earlier this week.

In a lively press conference ahead of their home race, the McLaren and Honda drivers got involved in an entertaining exchange that resulted in Hamilton eventually accepting the challenge after regular triathlon runner Button offered to give money to charity if he lost.

“What if I say £10,000 to the charity of your choice if you beat me? What do you think?” Jenson asked.

“Are you trying to steer me off this championship or what?” Lewis replied.

Button then countered: “It’s the only thing I can be competitive in at the moment. Think about it.”

Then asking further pressing on whether the event would take place by the assembled reporters, Hamilton eventually agreed: “The biggest incentive is, if I do beat you, then you’ve got some money for a charity which is great. However, you do have an advantage as you’ve already done one, and I already know that by doing one you’re better the next time. But man, I’m up for it, I’m up for it.

He then added: “OK, let’s do it. It’s a date.”

However what would likely have been a much-hyped ‘F1 Battle of Britain’ has now been scrapped after Lewis’s father and manager Anthony pulled his son out of the planned event.

"Lewis accepted the challenge like the good sport he is and in the spirit with which he accepts things,” Hamilton senior said in a statement.

“But unfortunately for Lewis, we are withdrawing him from this.

“We are in the middle of a championship and that is the focus of our attention."

The third British driver in the press conference, David Coulthard had already ruled himself out of going up against his two younger compatriots, with the Scot, heading for retirement at the end of the season, saying at 37 he was too old.

He did however offer to carry the water bottles.

I'm a bit torn here:

1) I could be charitable, and agree with Hamilton's dad. The kid is in a championship fight, and has enough distractions right now that he should be getting shot of without adding one more to the mix.
2) I could be a bit less charitable, and....well, I might start a fight here if I go down that route.

:)

Can you feel the love for DC? :D

I think it is probably the primary reason tbh.

It seems a bit.....well, the word I want to use isn't allowed here so use your imagination....****, given that the money they were wagering was going to go to charity.

I hope Anthony reconsiders, or Lewis ignores him. Either is good with me. Then we get to sit back to watch Lewis lose, and a charity of Button's choice gets ten grand. Nobody loses, really.

Lewis doesn't need to be concentrating on that though. not yet.

He seems to be spending a lot of his time concentrating on stuff other than F1 racing, though. That yacht race? The whittering about how the media are being mean to him? The signing of multi-million pound endorsement deals with various companies? The general 'sponsor events' bull****?

Meh, whatever. Not planning on starting a ForumFight™ over this. I just happen to think there are many other distractions he could lose before losing a charity event.

Anyone else watching the practice stream finding it's struggling a bit?

I'm watching this now, with a good feed.

Alonso just left a really long oil slick at, i think it was Stowe, when his engine died. Massa went through it and spun hitting the barrier. His car is definate write off. :(
