I think the McLarens are a bit like the BMW's now, on it in quali, but over race distance, fade away in comparison to the Ferrari's.
Ferraris have always been stronger on race day than in qualifying. We saw this in 2007 and in 2008.
My gut feeling is that McLaren are missing the experience of Alonso, but I did predict that when Alonso left McLaren, that they wouldnt be as competitive.
They really have got to put their all behind Hamilton and hope he brings it home and stops making bad racing (and pit-lane) decisions.
IMO, for the remainder of this year, bearing in mind that Hamilton is showing his inexperience, McLaren should make the calls for Hamilton, eg. almost coach him through the race and not let him make the decisions. EG. in Canada, they shouldve really hammered home the point at the pit-stop to calm down and drive slowly to the traffic lights, as they are red. EG. in France, they shouldve told him immediately to allow Vettel to re-take his position, so Hamilton could re-overtake him later on in the lap.
The key thing is that McLaren must acknowledge that in the pit-lane and especially around Alonso, Hamilton consistently loses his head and these are the times where he needs to be calmed down.
What happened in France, IMO was inexcusable by McLaren - they shouldve ordered Hamilton to let Vettel past, yet they sat there expecting the FIA to side with them.
A lot of this is common sense, which McLaren seem to be lacking.
