2008 British Grand Prix - Race 9/17

Lewis doesn't need to be concentrating on that though. not yet.

WHat, he doesn't need to be concentrating on increasing his fitness levels? All we hear about is how fit he is and how he is the fittest bloke on the grid (gotta love itv), so surely this would actually be good for his WDC rather than a hinderance.

The McLarens seem to have the edge in S1, but Ferrari close the gap in S2 and S3. In Kovalainen's last run he was 0.3 up in S1, and finished 0.012 down at the finish line - could be a close one to call for the weekend.

Also, it looks like there's a few new elevating cameras at the track this year, one at the exit of Maggots/Becketts/Chapel which shows how fast the cars fly through it. And another at Stowe which you can follow the cars all the way down to the straight between Club and Abbey :)

Top of the times for Massa despite ending up backwards into the barriers at Stowe courtesy of an oil spill from Alonso.

Nice one Renault. Not sure why they seem to have lost the ability to keep their cars screwed together this season - I don't recall them being this unreliable for the previous few years.

It will never move to Donington, it's just political games. The same thing happened 10 years ago when Brands Hatch won the contract. Bernie is just doing the same thing.

Donington track is much better than silverstone, but the facilities andparking are much better at silverstone. The racing will be better at donington too.

You know I don't think that will be the case in a modern F1 car, and they would have to butcher a lot of Donington to get it up to FIA standards. Tarmac over the runoffs at the craner curves anyone?

During the off-season, it is true that drivers must work on their fitness levels. However, once the season starts, their fitness work tapers off while they begin putting more energy into driving/testing the car and also sponsor work. Unfortunately, sponsors have to be dealt with as they ultimately, pay your wages.

Hamilton should not be getting involved in triathalons in the middle of the season. Button is a journeyman - happy to pick up his pay cheque and drive badly; Hamilton on the other hand is fighting for a championship and cant afford to get side tracked for a few weeks, while he prepares and competes in a triathalon.

Now, if he deferred the triathalon to sometime in November/December, say, then there would be no excuse.

i thought Brands Hatch couldn't get planning permission for upgrades due to its location

It was never going to be granted. I spoke to a lot of BRDC people at the time when the news came out that Brands had 'won' the contract and they explained to me that it would never happen for those reasons and it was all just political - they were spot on.

Donington say they've got it linky

I know - it was already 'confirmed' when I was making my point. I wasn't saying they hadn't won a contract, just that I don't believe they will host the 2010 British grand prix there. It's all political games, mark my words. :)

Seen it all before.

MASSA owning Silverstone youtube link..
Hopefully we see more of that this year, well actually hopefully not.. I dont want to see the poor bloke start from so far back again. I hope his neck is ok after that shunt.
I think the McLarens are a bit like the BMW's now, on it in quali, but over race distance, fade away in comparison to the Ferrari's.
Dispite his shunt my moneys on Massa for the win, possibly pole too. Omg i'm turning into a massa fan.. when did that happen? Go Kimi!

I hope you're right , It would ruin Donington as a Bike track

Ferraris have always been stronger on race day than in qualifying. We saw this in 2007 and in 2008.

My gut feeling is that McLaren are missing the experience of Alonso, but I did predict that when Alonso left McLaren, that they wouldnt be as competitive.

They really have got to put their all behind Hamilton and hope he brings it home and stops making bad racing (and pit-lane) decisions.

IMO, for the remainder of this year, bearing in mind that Hamilton is showing his inexperience, McLaren should make the calls for Hamilton, eg. almost coach him through the race and not let him make the decisions. EG. in Canada, they shouldve really hammered home the point at the pit-stop to calm down and drive slowly to the traffic lights, as they are red. EG. in France, they shouldve told him immediately to allow Vettel to re-take his position, so Hamilton could re-overtake him later on in the lap.

The key thing is that McLaren must acknowledge that in the pit-lane and especially around Alonso, Hamilton consistently loses his head and these are the times where he needs to be calmed down.

What happened in France, IMO was inexcusable by McLaren - they shouldve ordered Hamilton to let Vettel past, yet they sat there expecting the FIA to side with them.

A lot of this is common sense, which McLaren seem to be lacking.
