2008 Canadian Grand Prix - Race 7/18

How has Max Mosley won a vote to keep him instated as FIA president?
By the sounds of things he's been schmoozing with the smaller automobile clubs for a while and they've supported him. The bigger clubs (US, Germany & The Netherlands for sure) seem to have voted against him - the German ADAC club has withdrawn from all FIA activities as a result.

I believe the US are considering doing the same.

The German GP @ Hockenheim is safe, the AvD does that. But the European GP at the Nurburgring next year is going to be a pain, that's ran by the ADAC. Which could play hell with the FIA GT 24 hour race at the Nordschleife.

The AAA withdrew from sanctioning after the Le Mans Disaster, hence why USAC were formed to take over.. But the AAA, USAC and the ADAC are all closely linked. They have over 15 million combined members. So god knows what's going to happen.

Personally I hope the Canadian GP doesn't become another USA 05. Many teams wanted Max out and wont be happy with this decision. But im sure Bernie is already on the blower to the teams hoping that this wont happen.

The WTCC have a race @ Oschersleben (ADAC) in August. Thats going to be interesting to see what happens.

Going to give them a bit more front end downforce at high speeds which might make the car a bit twitchy but that should be easily dialled out with a tweak to the main planes of the front wing.

The aero boys at the factories are going to be busy though trying to work out how much that tweak has to be before Friday.

Yup. IIRC McLaren added the first bridge wing quite early last year (Barca was it?). And then all of a sudden they were outpacing the Ferrari's by quite a bit at most tracks... so I fear McLaren could be taking a big step back if this rule clarification is going to be enforced.

But then, I'm not sure if Ferrari and BMW's bridge wings are flexible like McLarens. If they are and the rule is enforced for all the teams then it should be OK.

Pretty sure that car belongs to McLaren and/or one of their test drivers. Seen it around my town ( yes I know... but their test driver (not Pedro) lives here!) a couple times.

Someone on the Autosport (Atlasf1) forum knows someone in Haverhill who said the same thing about it being Gary's car.

why? all they gotta do is stop it flexing... which it shouldnt be in the first place.

a small support there surely isnt going to damage a cars stability?
Shouldn't & doesn't are two different things.

If the wing flexes at high speed then it will do so in such a way as to reduce drag and downforce. With a fixed bridge that downforce variation is removed and the front to rear balance is now different at high speeds. Not by a lot but not everyone likes a car which is tail happy so the drivers will have to react by changing the setup of the car to keep the front to rear balance to their taste.

true, ok i kinda missed the point i thought you guys was talking as if mclaren totally lost there advantage of having it... so mclaren are cheating now are they? ;)

at least ferrari is fixed already, and, can infact support the wing once the main "legs" have failed

Who do we think will prang their car into the wall first this weekend? My money is on Piquet. I think the pressure will get to him and he'll end up overdriving the car yet again = early exit.

Sounds like a safe bet to me! Rain forecast for the whole weekend. :D
