2008 Chinese GP - Race 17/18

BTW has a 3 slot grid penalty ever happened before? Seems like the FIA just plucked that rule from thin air for Heidfeld

Pretty sure it has. Fisi in Turkey, Heidfeld in Singapore.

***edit***

And I'm pretty sure that same question was asked in the Singapore thread when Heidfeld copped the penalty there!

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton could be fined by stewards for an incident during Saturday morning practice in China.

During the last hour of practice before qualifying, the McLaren driver made a mistake on the pit entry road - as he famously did one year ago at the Shanghai International Circuit.

This time, however, the 23-year-old avoided the infamous gravel trap, instead running up an escape road.

But when he then selected reverse gear and backed into the pit entry before continuing into the pits, he may have contravened a fundamental rule.

Last month in Singapore, Toyota's Jarno Trulli was fined 10,000 Euros after he drove the wrong way up the pit straight following a spin.

Article 30.2 of F1's sporting regulations says drivers are 'strictly forbidden' from driving the wrong way around a circuit, 'unless this is absolutely necessary in order to move the car from a dangerous position.'

As well as the fine, Trulli was also officially reprimanded.

Meanwhile, Red Bull's Mark Webber will drop ten places down the Chinese Grand Prix grid, after his Renault V8 failed in practice.

Lets hope its just a fine :p

Knowing the stewards and everybody else hate for hamilton at the moment it will probably end up being blown ridiculously out of proportion and he'll be moved down the grid or something silly like that.

would it be legal if raikonen crashed in hamilton to make massa win ?

The stewards would have a hard time penalising Massa for it, even leaving aside their profound love for Massa and Ferrari and their intense hatred of Hamilton and McLaren.

My little bit of fiction:

Raikkonen will beat Hamilton to the first corner, Massa will let Alonso into third place. Alonso will drive into the back of Hamilton. If Hamilton gets back into the race, Weber will do for him. Massa will pass Raikkonen after the first pit stop and go on to win the race. Raikkonen will be second and Kubica will finish third. ;)
