2008 German GP - Race 10/18

Alonso may believe that he is Gods gift. However, all the top line drivers, have also had this unshakeable belief in their own ability - Senna, Mansell, Prost, Alonso, MS and now Hamilton.

If you dont believe you are the best, then you probably wont be.

Yep a pretty poor choice of words from FrankJH, most of the drivers have believed they are the best since the age of 8 years old, driving Karts with 400+ BHP per tonne at 14-15 years old.
Theyve had a very different childhood and upbringing and people watching on TV let that get to them over some stirring up by the tabloid press. Lewis Hamilton look s a cocky little ### at times, but in person him and ALonso are really nice guys.

Walker and Brundle went ape back in '98 at the Autrailian race when Couldthard slowed down and let Hakkinen take the lead.

Don't be expecting commentry to be any different when it moves to BBC1.

Did they balls. I remember that race quite vividly when I watched it.

The only comments made were to the effect of "Whats going on here"?

Nothing to the magnitude seen in Austria back in 02.

As I said. Team orders are team orders. The rules dont mention anything about a driver who is faster than the other.... or gifting wins or what not. Its plain and simple really.

Not trying to take anything away from Hamiltons win, which was stellar, but the point is that people seem to think that this kind of action is acceptable when it serves their purpose in any shape or form.

I realise that - some of them, like Mansell, Prost, Senna dont have to shout about it, they just do it on the track, Hamilton is exactly the same he leaves his talking to the track - unlike Alonso

If you read between the lines, Hamilton always, when talking about his racing, makes out as if, if he has the best car under him, he will always win. He comes over as big-headed (but like I stated, all the top drivers have this trait). As Hamilton gets more wins under his belt, he will come over as even more big-headed. Remember, he isnt a World Champ yet. Kimi has 1. Alonso has 2.

Senna was one of the biggest-headed F1 drivers I have ever seen. In his interviews, he made out that he was ALWAYS right and that the only reason someone beat him was because they were in a better car. He also believed that he had the God given right to be in the best car, at all times.

did anyone else notice Ron Dennis winning a bet over the age of lewis' pitgirl before the race?
he went over to her, asked her something, to which the reply was "25", and then one of his colleagues gave him some money :D

that was ridiculous - schedule obviously has to be kept :(

Its how its shown that makes the difference, and how Alonso appears everytime he talks just winds me up all the time

Alonso is uncomfortable with the press and doesnt like being famous, unless you speak Spanish or Italian then you would hardly know how he really expresses himself.
To say Alonso hasnt done his talking on the track and then claiming you've been watching 15 years is laughable.

I don't think Piquet should be driver of the day - it's 2nd place was largely by luck rather than skill. Piquet did well because of the safety car, Hamilton despite it.

Agreed. Piquet got there by luck.

Hamilton built up a 12 second lead then went down to 5th due to the SC and still made the 1st place.

Hamilton for Driver of the Day really.

And once again shows how ITV arrive at their decision for Driver of the Day with no foresight or understanding of what has unfolded.

Team orders are still team orders. The team made a decision in some shape or form to give their other driver an advantage.

Both drivers in the team can mathematically still win the championship still.

How do you know Kovi didn't just use his initiative and opt to let him through so as to not lose too much time fighting a futile battle?

Raikonnen was only a couple of seconds behind them and Hamilton would have passed him soon enough anyway.

Because Kovalainnen is supposedly not Mclarens second driver since Mclaren have equal driver status remember? Ron kept banging on about this last year if you recall.... funny how theyve gone quiet about that this year.

Kovalainnen is fighting for the championship just as Hamilton is. He should not be driving if he feels that he should treat his team mate any differently.

Lets put it another way. Had it been Alonso in Kovas seat.... do you HONESTLY think he wouldve moved over from the goodness of his heart? (assume that all the crap that happened between Alonso and Hamilton didnt occur yet).

Their driver of the day is often given as a consolation to someone who did unusually well under the spot light, Ive never taken it seriously at all.
Martin Brundle said it all when he said Piquet "went from nowhere to the front, after the saftey car came out at exaclty the right time"

So why in some years have they given driver of the day to Schumacher when he obliterated the opposition? I.e. P1 and Driver of the day to the same driver?

Hamilton obliterated the opposition today...

To be fair Piquet made no mistakes and was in a car somewhat slower than the ones around him, plus his tires were older.
