2008 German GP - Race 10/18

JRS is very quiet lately - does anyone have his address as I'm worried he might have done something to himself after seeing the driver he is so obsessed with perform two truely great races. :D

To be fair Piquet made no mistakes and was in a car somewhat slower than the ones around him, plus his tires were older.

That is true, but then he got bunched up with the front due to the SC. Not to mention 8 or so laps driving around at slow speeds and saving the tyre behind the safety car.

In contrast Alonso's race looked bad, but he was one of the few having a go at cars infront of him and lost all his places through not being conservative enough (which isnt really racing)

There's racing and then there's being hot headed, it made for good TV but Alonso did just look a bit shabby today. Overdriving the car and taking questionable risks.
Shame, you could see after he was on the radio about Vettel that he was going to lose it.

If they did, it was nowhere to the degree we saw in Austria.
And were the crowd booing in Australia? I think not.

You can go check too :D

I've no reason to check as I know what happened.

Your making statements without any evidence. How are you to know the crowd wasn't booing at the '98 Aus race? afterall it was on the home straight when it happened.

I'm sure you can prove me otherwise :)

Shamelessly stealing this off another forum, will try to find a source.

A Japanese girl is comforted by her father after she was run over by Ferrari Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen of Finland, pairs of legs left, prior to the German Formula One Grand Prix in Hockenheim, Germany, Sunday, July 20, 2008. The little girl asked for an autograph but got in his way. Raikkonen was later criticized that he did not even apologize. (AP Photo/Martin Meissner)

That is indeed rather shocking if its true

He was driving a slow car on a low fuel load, theres nothing questionable about having a go. How often do we hear the teams pushing the drivers on the radio and see no results from them? It bothered me when Renault were pushing Piquet when Hamilton growling down his neck, like he could do much about it.
If Alonso was Coulthard (described as 'great' today) he would have collided with Trulli. Also he sounded anything but Hot Headed after the incident with Vettel.

So, in this race, he ran over the feet of a little girl.
And was it in France where he knocked a photographer over, as he got a little close?

Kimi is a bad boy. :D

I have watched every Formula 1 race for the last 25 years. Ok I may not know every particular detail of each race, but there are things that just blatantly stand out. Such as this.

During the national anthems and at the chequered flag you can hear everyone booing Ferrari and Schumacher, you'd be deaf not to.

Whereas in Australia of 98, Mclaren/Hakkinen/Coulthard were not boo-ed.

Austrian 2002 GP Wiki entry. Mentions jeering by the fans.

Australian 1998 GP, no mention of jeering by the fans.

I have a big archive of Grand Prix video files, Ill dig something out...

I respect Fred more this year than last, but he hasn't done that well has he.

Well as it turned out Alonso was right about last year, McLaren were the losers for not backing one or the other driver. Not surprisingly their stance changed, but Alonso is the bad guy for being right?
Also we know he's the only driver who can compete with Hamilton and is still impressing the trackside people who matter, like Brawn and Montezemolo.

Well this is a good example of even though you're in the right you might be better to just keep quiet.

I think Alonso is good but can also be rash, Ferrari won't put up with no WDC for long (should that even happen)

You havnt met Alonso then. Explain why Piquet got where he was with your 15 years knowledge then?

Everytime Alonso speaks he has to state that he is better than anyone - most other drivers actually leave that to be stated how they perform on the track without necessity of throwing toys out of their pram

By driving a better race from a much worse position (14 places wasnt it?)

Admittedly Piquet was a little lucky as he didnt really have much of an option on how to run his race from that grid position, but even so he made no mistakes whereas Alonso made a few mistakes and lost positions to equal cars/driver combos

Piquet was easily able to keep ahead of Massa - and yet a "better" driver couldnt hold of Kimmi in a much worse set-up Ferrari

In contrast Alonso's race looked bad, but he was one of the few having a go at cars infront of him and lost all his places through not being conservative enough (which isnt really racing)

Dont delude yourself he made several mistakes one of which trying a move that was never going to work out (as Kovi was always going to be blocking where Alonso wanted to be to make the move work) and that cost him several positions
