2008 Japanese GP - Race 16/18

Kubica would appear to be jealous?

The Timo Glock incident at Monza was not that good but LH clearly didn't do it delibrately. It was wet. Side mirrors are useless in the wet. Timo Glock shouldn't have placed his car in a vulnerable position anyway. It was hardly "dangerous driving".

The incident with Alonso again was more gamesmanship than "dangerous driving". You could barely kill a monkey at the speeds they touched wheels.

Definitely.

I think in 2008, Hamilton is a rare breed of old-skool drivers who wants to be fastest, at all times, in all sessions, simply because he can (and also because he has a massive ego). The drivers of late have become too "smooth", in that they dont want to partake in the rough stuff and they tend to shy away from wheel to wheel racing.

Imagine if Mansell (at his peak), raced against these guys. They would be asking for him to be banned!!!

Soon, drivers will be asking for overtaking to be banned.

I think its refreshing to see such an aggressively fast driver using race craft to put the manners on his peers, on the track. This is the way it should be done. I'd like to see Alonso in a fast car though, as I think now he will be prepared to play rough and in 2008 we have been robbed of potentially the most spectacular racing that F1 would've provided in the past decade or so.

MS's racing style was very clinical and (most of the time), lacked the excitement of a Mansell, Hamilton or Senna and I think a lot of the drivers who are in F1 right now, believed that that was the way F1 was heading. Hamilton has come in and has returned F1 to what it was before MS. Hopefully, the rest of the field will follow.

I think it will be interesting to see if Massa gives up or goes for it. He has been very successful from the front this season so far but has tended to get bogged down when his grid position has been compromised. 5th isn't a disaster though and he's got a quick car so we might have a decent race after all.

On the topic of old-school drivers.

What would be peoples dream line up?

Mine would be:

1) Senna
2) Hamilton
3) Prost
4) Mansell
5) Stewart
6) Clark
8) Hill
9) Villeneuve
10) Moss
11) Hakkinen
12) Fittipaldi
13) Rosberg
14) Piquet
15) Montoya
16) Schumacher
17) Alonso
18) Fangio

Not everyones taste, but them lot in a full grid. Would be heck of a race. Especially on a decent track.

Edit montoya is still staying but lauda gets sub for alonso :p

Indeed. Two things to bear in mind.

1. Hungary.
2. Longer pit straight.

Goto formula1.com and see the arrival speed into turn one in Hungary vs Fuji.
Higher top speed in Fuji.

Also, turn 1 in Hungary and Fuji are near on identical .

And lastly remember how Massa propagated himself from 3rd to 1st in Hungary this year.

Not saying it will happen this year, but would you want to bet against something of a similar ilk happening :) ?

Im genuinely insulted that you stuck Montoya in that list :D
Id stick Alonso instead of Montoya.

Rather pathetic comments from Kubica, I expected better from him really. It's racing, Hamilton's performance in Italy was great and I don't understand how Kubica thinks Hamilton could have done all that overtaking without being at least a little bit aggressive.

It's almost as if he wants F1 to be even more boring, whether you like Hamilton or not he has made this season a lot more exciting with his overtakes and by todays terms 'agressive' driving.

why because i agree with him? i said so at the time as i am sure you can remember so why would i not agree with him? lewis is arrogant on the race track as is out of control kubica is not the first driver to speak about it

and yes for my money kubica has done a much better job with his car this year he would easily be doing what lewis is in a mclaren probably doing it better.(if he was allowed at team lewis)

Could you pick 6 numbers between 1 and 49 for me please.

Thanks Meg

Just a question: do you think MS was really "that" good? Or do you think anyone couldve done what he did?

Not wanting to encourage such discussions :D But wasnt it in Italy when a few drivers spoke up about Hamilton?

Well folks... 10 hours or less to go. Sod it... gonna get up for this :D

I think he is trying to wind us up.

:D

Yep :D, a few F1 threads back I thought he was being serious and I thought fair enough, but now he is obviously trolling for a response. It's quite funny though, but I'm not sure if he is being sarcastic or not :p.

7 times world champ? do you really need an answer? what has he got to do with anything? Michael showed he can race in any car not just the best. Would Lewis be beating Kubica at BMW? I don't think so.

I see the usual crybabies cant accept not everyone thinks Lewis is the best, shame really but they probably started watching F1 8 months ago.

speaking of michael - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/7661652.stm

even he is bored of lewis and the british love him mentality :D
