2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Great innings from Trott, especially coming in at what was it, 39-3? Twice now he's showed composure at crucial times, when Pietersen comes back we might even be look at quite a formidable batting line-up :o

Many's the England player who's shone in their first test and failed to back it up over the coming series. I'm not counting the chickens just yet; but I think has been a terrific performance from him - especially when you compare it to what the other batsman (on both sides) have so far achieved on this pitch.

Indeed, I was quite impressed by his interviews before the last Test, he has a kind-of arrogance/self-belief about him, but a good kind - maybe we should just import more Saffas for our middle order :P

Exactly what i was gonna say...prime example is Bopara....overhyped because he got centuries against a WI side that couldnt even be bothered to turn up for the Test series ie Gayle staying on for the IPL...he comes up against the Aussies and he gets shown the door.

Well done to Trott though..ill hold my salivating over him...so far its only one game but hes done very well to hold it together.

Will be interesting to see how much grit the Aussies have to try and save this match although i think its a bit beyond them now...but miracles can happen i suppose.

Top ten highest run-chases:

1. West Indies (v Australia, St John's, May 9 2003) – 418/7 in 128.5 overs
2. India (v West Indies, Port of Spain, April 7 1976) - 406/4 in 147 overs
3. Australia (v England, Leeds, July 22 1976) – 404/3 in 114.1 overs
4. India (v England, Chennai, December 15 2008) – 387/4 in 98 overs
5. Australia (v West Indies, Georgetown, March 31 1978) – 362/7 in 101 overs
6. Sri Lanka (v South Africa, Colombo, August 4 2006) – 352/9 in 113.3 overs
7. West Indies (v New Zealand, Auckland, February 27 1969) – 348/5 in 69 8-ball overs
8. West Indies (v England, Lord's, June 28 1984) – 344/1 in 66.1 overs
9. Australia (v India, Perth, December 16 1977) – 342/8 in 87.2 8-ball overs
10. South Africa (v Australia, Durban, March 15 2002) – 340/5 in 104.5 overs

Its a tall order

Not a particularly good start!

Maybe not but as long as the Aussies dont lose a wicket or 2 before end of play then for them thats a good start...they can then get down to batting out tommorrow and hopefully the final day of the test...they cant afford to lose wickets...if they start losing wickets then the game is over...definitely need one of the openers to get a century and then a few lower order batsmen ie North, Ponting and Clarke.

Im actually very impressed with Watson since hes come into the side...hes done ever so well as an opener when usually he doesnt but looks like he might be the Aussies new opener with his consistency with the bat...still surprised why Ponting hasnt made him bowl a ball as hes an all rounder.

And thats stumps...Aussies did well to survive it and England done an excellent job to more or less put the game out of the Aussies reach now.

If England manage to **** this up...i dont think ill be able to stop laughing at just how utterly inept England are...secretly hoping that they dont bowl the Aussies out:p:D.

It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that he might still be playing at 38, is it? Steve Waugh played until that age for example.
Was Steve Waugh still playing Test cricket at 38? And captaining the side? Or just first class cricket somewhere?

The Australian cricket selectors are quite harsh with older players. They tend not to let them hang around but kick them out and get younger players in.

So far this test, Strauss, Trott, Broad and Swann have contributed 438 runs and 6 wickets, purely between themselves, with another three wickets caught by other players.

Just had a dreadful premonition: Clark and Hilfenhaus still there with 10 mins to go on Monday evening as an ironic revenge for Cardiff.

Need to get a grip.

Haha similar to what i was thinking today...that this could be sweet revenge for Cardiff when the Aussies, who should have won that game couldnt get the last wicket.

Although i just cant see the Aussies being able to bat out 2 whole days...if they do then its definitely a miracle in the making.
