2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Well what a cricket game this is turning out to be...i havent really had a chance to watch any of it...been kinda busy with family from Canada but reading cricinfo when i get a chance but bloody hell Aussies out for 160:eek:...would have never thought that would happen. But well done to the English bowlers...they just took apart Aussies...other than Katich and Watson the rest of the batters just played utter ****...why the hell Hussey is still in the side is truly beyond me:confused:...he is so out of form that its laughable...

I still dont understand why Lee wasnt picked...massive mistake for the Aussies and they should have known better...the guy is a match winner....should have dumped one of the other fast bowlers...or perhaps left Clark out of the side....not only that Hauritz should be playing as well...god knows whats going through the Aussies selectors minds when they decided to keep the same side as Headingly.

Anyhow cant see the Aussies being able to save this match...they will have to bat out of their skins with possibly 2 days left or even 3 days if the Aussies bowl England out today...if they can keep it to less than 400 then they have a good chance of saving the game and possibly getting a win but honestly i cant see it.

So i might as well just offer my congrats to England right now for taking the Ashes back:p...they definitely have outbowled and out batted the Aussies pure and simple.

But honestly well done to England...looks like the Ashes are coming back to England...Ponting should be ashamed of his and his teams performance tbqh.

...stuff...

The only reason I can see for not playing Lee is he, or the Aussie staff, don't feel he is up to it. Like Flintoff (perhaps to a lesser extent) he is a talisman for their team.

It's shaping up to be an interesting match, with the pitch, and the the toss, becoming increasingly significant. The cynic in me might be inclined to suggest the ground staff had in mind that the England bowlers would be the key to this: we have the better bowlers, the Aussies have the better batsmen. That said, it's the same for both teams and to skittle Australia for 160 is a very good result. The pressure is still on for England and Strauss. With a few days left, it must be in the back of his mind that Australia are more than capable of batting out this match, and whilst we had a good day with the ball yesterday, that was down to a [perhaps] fortunate patch from two bowlers.

Also, I was pleased to see that, according to the front page of this mornings Daily Telegraph at least, Chris Broad got a five-fer in the test yesterday ;)

Good first session so far for us. Not been a romping run fest, but we needed to stabilise matters and we've done just that, 100-3 is a decent base, and Strauss and Trott are doing a good job of showing it's perfectly possible to bat decently on this pitch regardless of what the Aussies did.

This must be a real downer for the Aussies, just seeing that it is possible to bat well enough on this wicket

I've been impressed with Trott so far. He looks very solid. I confess, I haven't seen much of him at county level but I'd like to see him bat a bit higher. Bopara and Bell still look like rabbits, but Trott seems to have a good head. Perversely, I'd almost like to see Strauss and Trott get out. It's time for Fred and Prior to start knocking it out of the ground :)

Well its probably because the wicket itself has changed;)...Engalnd batted well in the first innings but they were helped out by some pretty rubbish Aussie bowling...whereas Aussie batters did an England with their spectacular batting collapse.

It will be interesting to see how the Aussies bat in the 2nd innings and how England bowl...they need to bowl the Aussies out and if the wicket has become flat then i fear that England wont bowl them out...but at the moment i cant see that happening.

The Aussie bowlers are decidely average at the moment...they cant get a wicket for love or money at the moment.

I haven't actually seen any of this test, only listened to it on TMS. But, from the information so far recieved, he's had a very good first test, and batted as the situation needed. One to watch for the coming tests, I think.

LOL thats gotta hurt for Ponting...bit of a nasty hit he took there.

As much as it might stick in my throat, as an Englishman, Punter is a great cricketer. He often doesn't pad up when fielding short, and he took that one square in the grid, spat blood and got on with it. To then go up and shake Fred's hand is a measure of the man.

It seems likely that this will be the last time we see him play in an Ashes series over here, and the game will be all the poorer for it.

LOL @ Flintoff getting out...pretty poor shot to play...guess thats the last we will see of him playing a Test...one of my fave england players...in fact the only one ive ever liked.

Oh well wickets falling now but still dont think Aussies are going to save this game barring a miracle...

Fair play to Punter, he's a tough lad. No dramatics; just straight back into the game.

Agreed.
