NHS, education etc will all suffer under the Tories as well. Certainly very few people where I work will ever vote Tory as will almost certainly mean job cuts. Furthermore, most of us are old enough to remember the previous Tory government and how crap that was.

I should imagine that these forums have a relatively young demographic.

NHS has too much management and needs cuts
Education has had funding increase without any real gain

It shows why we need PR so much. So Lib-Dem win 22% of the popular vote, 6% behind Labour, yet are 200 seats behind in Parliment. How the **** can that be right? It's a scandal, neigh, an outrage! ;)

Well true, but at the same time no one can command with the mixed vote, leading to back-room dealing rather than clear policies.

Though yes I do agree, the Libs should have a higher seat count based on their vote share.

Malik must hold a local office in his constituency with hours he is there. He can live wherever he wants. He works in his constituency and Westminster.

Ahah, and that's the problem, isn't it? Even if Malik became MP for Brent, he wouldn't be there all the time. He'd only be there during certain hours at certain times of the week.

Theoretically he could pack up everything and move down to London, but there's no need for this while he's able to sponge a second residence off the taxpayer, so it's more likely that he'd retain his primary residence in Dewsbury (let's entertain the idea that some people willingly live in Dewsbury, however strange that might sound) and buy himself a nice little flat in Brent.

Consequently, his London constituency becomes little more than a part time "fly-in, fly-out" job; he's not local to his constituency, and he's only there when he wants to be.

So Lib Dem only got about 6-7% less votes than Labour yet have almost 5 times fewer seats.

Pathetic system, pathetic Labour for trying to cling on to power, misinformed voters for voting for them in the first place.

You expect people to be able to drop by his house?

Also, its likely he would move to Brent if he had won. Why would he want to take a train every day?

edit:

As for being funded by the taxpayer, I don't know what the rules are.

Typical Brown in bullish fashion this morning. They've lost the election yet they treat it as a victory because they still have power. Such a crap voting system.

You can with some MPs. There's a lot to be said in actually living in the area you represent surely? Clearly it's not crucial to do the job, but it does raise a question over ones motivation.

Clearly, that's upto the voters to decide. If I was an opponent, I'd make this a key point.

The lowest number of votes since 1983, could it be any more clear that the country does NOT want Gordon Brown as Prime Minster?

His attempts to cling to power are disgusting.

And the pound:dollar rate is in freefall. Why are the people of this country so incapable of engaging brain before voting :(

Surely the reverse can be said though that the country has clearly shown that they don't think the conservatives are the answer ?

If we had PR does anyone know roughly how things would have looked under it? Just curious to see as I doubt Labour would have gotten as many seats as it has.

Oh God Oh God Oh God, a presenter on the BBC just said one of the coalition suggestions to come out has been a Labour/Lib-Dem cabinet with...Lord Mandelson as PM.

If you call the current drop free fall, then we have dozens of such freefalls this year.

Of course there have been many rebounds as well.

Might just be rioting.
