I think the Thatcher years will continue to hurt the Tories votes for many years to come.

After what i heard today i believe you may be right. There are some rather militant labour supporters on my coach in the morning. By all means support what party represents your views best but they're entire reason behind the dislike of the tories was the Thatcher years . Because that's a great way to judge a political party several years on . Seems completely illogical to me but hey what do i know? They seemed to be convinced the years just gone under labour have been great. I thoroughly enjoyed winding them up especially when they displayed a clear lack of knowledge on policy. (i'm a wind up merchant so i couldn't resist the opportunity)

As for the current outcome, the cabinet make up and policy details released so far i'm actually reasonably happy. I really hope this coalition works.

"The Lib Dems have got another of their big wishes - we've learned that there's going to be wholesale reform of the House of Lords, early in the parliament, to make it fully elected. And the method they're going to use to elect it? Proportional representation, the system the Lib Dems have loved for so long, says the BBC News channel's chief political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg."

Did not see that coming...

If true that's fantastic news and credit to both parties for agreeing on it.

Hell's bells, that's a massive change

So AV for the HoC and PR for the HoL - that almost sounds like a proper voting system :p

Guess it'll be used as a dry run to see how PR works in a british environment, though the end of hereditary peerage which was just a sanctioned monarchy rule is over and im not sure i'll miss it.

Let’s get down to work:

Last Thursday would not have believed that this was possible.

I have very high hopes for this to work, I was very torn between both parties when casting my vote, (the electorial reform on the Lib Dems was one of my pulling factors toward them). I'm just praying they can all get along, and they fix some of the countries issues.

Ditto, tbh :)

It's going to be an amazing coalition and the beginings of a new political party, I really don't think Cameron / Clegg are that far apart and I also think that Cameron has strengthend his cabinet by adding the lib dems like he has, the knock on is that both parties will want to make this work.

I really can see this working to such a level that it's something they consider in the future.

The interesting thing is...

If this works sooo well then by the next election the people will probably want to vote to keep the current two in coalition, but it will no be on the ballot papers. It could be, maybe the two parties may merge to make one huge party under a slightly different name

LOL no chance - though 5 years is a long time!

If the election takes place under AV however it could make the 2nd choice 'tactical voting' more unpredictable though.

I can't see the Party members wearing that one. I suppose they'll just have to hope that enough people vote Lib-Dem again to make a further coalition possible.
