2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Finally back to being under 21st, I'm now sitting at 20st 13lb and aim to be 19st something by end of May beginning of June.

The main goal is to hit 18st something by September 1st for a Florida holiday.

Weighed in today at 20st 10, so things are heading in the right direction, should make 19st something by the end of the month/1st week of next if I push a little harder and eat a little less.

My BMI is 35, but it's such a crappy system the BMI calculator as it doesn't take into account frame size and muscle mass. I refuse to believe BMI as to get into the middle of the normal weight bracket I would need to weigh just under 13st, 10st less than I weigh in the picture on page 4.

I'm not sure on my body fat percentage though which is a much better indicator than BMI.

Coming to the end of weight loss journey soon....

Set myself a target on the 1st of July 2010 to go from 20st 10lbs to 12st in one year, well with 6wks to go im down to 12st 4lbs.

Trouble is, losing it is easy compared to keeping it off...:(

For some reason cycling just isnt cutting it for me to lose weight, been cycling upto 25m per day in one go but wasnt losing weight despite being on 1850 calories.

Ive found that a 4m walk / run does more for me which is what i'm doing now each day.

You should do both. Running trains one part of the quads, cycling another part. You'll have nice legs. :D

Have you tried a rowing machine? That's a great form of (low-impact) cardio to get into, though you still have to bend your knees repeatedly which may still be a problem. How about swimming?

Had a go on the rower the other day and while it certainly gives the ol' arms and shoulders a good seeing to, it actually kicked the Shinsplints in after about 5 minutes due the ankle bend as you move back and forward. I'll continue to do it - it certainly wasn't as impactful on the knees.

Still, managing 5 minutes on there is just as pathetic when it comes to the pain as the other cardio possibilities. I'm such an absolute mess that I can't even get the fires burning to a positive degree before I'm in so much pain I just want to give up and leave. It can't be normal.

People talk of enjoying their time at the gym, enjoying the adrenaline and endorphin rush etc. I only get any of that, and the "good" pain, when I'm lifting weights and not putting repeated strain on my legs. In order to really improve things, though, I do need to be using the bike, cross-trainer, and ideally treadmill, but it really is just horrendously painful. Makes me feel like absolute **** and close to just throwing it all out the window. Especially when it comes to the end of the week and, having put myself through that 3 or 4 times during, and keeping my calorie intake to <2000, I've GAINED a pound or two, or stayed the same. "Forlorn" might be an apt description.

Hell, it's taken me more than two years just to drop 2 stone so far. Yet here are people going on about losing 3 or 4 stone since JANUARY.

Swimming, I do enjoy, but could only do regularly if I had my own private pool. I'm such a blubbery disgrace of a being, covered in stretch marks and scars, that I just can't face it in public.

I'd be to embarassed to get my rolls out infront of someone specifically to be measured, it's bad enough just going for a swim!

It's a very useful measurement though. I have remained at a steady 110kg until recently but my body fat has dropped considerably, it's nice to know how my body is changing.

Also, the person measuring will have seen all sorts of different bodies, I do get a little embarassed about my hairy back but I just get on with it. :)

Personally I think it's far better to lose weight/fat slowly than to lose so much in such a short space of time.

Thats some good going, do you really want to go back to 20st+ just have a few treats in the week, its all about eating right while having a little of what is bad for you

Yeah, I hate BMI as a health measuring yard stick. Which is why I went and had a skinfold assessment.

Yeah, BMI index says I am the "obese" range

Wait what!

13 stone 10 with 25% body fat, I am 5 foot 7 as well so I need to lose 33 pounds/more than 2 stone to get in the healthy weight, doesn't take into account muscle mass, stupid system.

About 5 years ago I was 12 stone 10 and I was pretty slim back then, so trying to get down to that.
