2011 Weight Loss Thread!

good for you....! im doing the same atm, my only excuse is being knackered at work is not an option as making a mistake would/could be a disaster. now ive followed phates diet for a week of liquid foods only like chunky soups, i can feel my stomach has shrunk and that even soups fill me, so portion size is back in control. my problem is getting the right amount of calories, fat, protein and carbs in with my shift cycles and jitsu. I dont want to start eating alone so the meals needs to incorporate my wife and 2 children. Im seriously considering speaking with a nutritionist to see what they can offer.

also used an online calculator and my Resting Metabolic Rate is 2100 for my height and weight, so to see decent weight loss I need a 500kcals deficit am I right?

I don't seem to have lost any in two weeks, despite the fact that I was guzzling pop, chocs, biscuits and crisps every day which I no longer do and done exercise 4 days a week.

I dont see the point in diets, just eat a balanced range of foods - meat, fish, fruit, veg, potatoes, eggs, salad, nuts, cheese, milk and a few treats like chocolate and crisps.
All will be fine if you do a range of cardio and weights

Personally I eat anything I want (healthy, filling and tasty) and do a mix of cardio like run, bike, row, swim and weights in high reps. Weight doesnt seem to be going down but definately getting fitter

Sorry to be the pedant but that is a diet though. From a weight loss perspective, try and avoid cheese and eggs due to the fat content and same with potatoes due to the sheer amount of carbs in them unless you do a good amount of exercise to try burn through them.

Well i did ok then did not so ok.

Last week i averaged around 1000-1400 cal per day aprox.

I did the exercise bike and did 10 mins which is about 100 cal on mon tue and thur. And 50 calories extra on mon and thrus oh and an extra 10 on mon so in total thats about 410 calories i did last week on mon tue and thur. The seat is too uncomfortable tho especially around the groin and inner leg areas.

Now the bad.

Had a small 8" pizza tonite and for dinner was 1pkt of noodles and a smoked sausage. and not done any exercise bike today which im not too proud of. :(

Hopefully will get back on track starting tomorrow.

Damn its hard. I do hope to match but preferably beat 410 calories this week. Also to watch what i eat as i gradually move to a better eating habit and such.

we all fall off the wagon, why dont you see that as a treat day and move on....410kcals loss per week is very low fella. if the seat is to painful then strap a pillow to it. also if your really uncomfortable, mix it up, walking (at pace) and swimming. if your big and getting sore use vaseline, dont be ashamed just get on with it. itll work out for the good!

I was trying to say you don't know your body fat percentage because its not quite as accessible as your BMI is. While there are quick ways to check body fat, they are not that accurate - and I would like to see whether the accuracy varies about the same.. as say BMI ;) But anyway I digress a bit there. I think if BMI is useful to some people then so be it. I bet its a very convenient tool for the health profession, saves the GP whipping your top up and measuring your spare tyre.

I dont like BMI as a measure of health either. I keep track of my 'fattyness' by the jeans I fit into.

BMI with waist size is a bit more accurate. If your waist size is 38 or above, then you can be big framed but your still fat.

Rotters, i know 410 a week is low. Its my first week back to exercise in over 2 years or so. So i didnt think i did too bad tbh for a first week. I want to build it up to 1500 a week which will take a few months probably.

I have a towel on the seat but still a bit iffy.

I dont go out so walking or swimming is out of the question. I love swimming but since i put weight on way back in 93 or so i aint dared go to a swimming pool due to how i look.

Bit late to do any today but im gona aim for 200 tomorrow see if i can get through a few episodes of anime while doing it. :)

Ideally you avoid either or not both as that will leave your body with nothing to run on.

Whats the reason for not going out, you can lose weight staying in but getting walking and running is going to speed up the process of losing weight, you then should feel better plus its makes you do it, if you are a mile from home you have to run/walk another mile back home.

Lol true, maybe I should have worded my response better. I meant it more from an "avoid foods which are packed with xxx" instead of avoid carbs etc completely.

*crap about BMI actually working*

I came in here to post an update to my progress:

I'm down to 17 stone 9lbs, and my size 36 jeans are now starting to fall down, but I've put a little muscle mass on too!

I am a very heavy bloke, a personal trainer i was talking to the other day who im going to start seeing had mentally estimated my weight to be about 14.5 15 stone, he was gobsmacked when i told him to add another 3 onto that!

My weight VS height still leaves me in the OBESE category of BMI It's not the best photo in the world, but i'm definitely not a bodybuilder although i do have a bit of muscle from resistance work (pushups etc), so how the hell can anyone praise the BMI when it's telling me im not just overweight, but OBESE?

I don't actually know my bodyfat percentage, and it would be interesting to know as the only actualy fat fat really left on my body is around my stomach and a tiny bit around my chest muscles. My legs are very solid and very large around the thigh area, i imagine almost all of my excess weight is here.

But yea, there's my update!

Loooks like you have a semi-on in the 1st pic LOL :o

I'm down to 20st 6.25lbs tonight, which means I should wake up at 20st 4. Had a bit of a rough weekend, or so I thought, but it hasn't seemed to hamper my weight loss which is a bonus.

I've been cycling to work regularly, at least 3 times a week since I did my 1st ride in documented above. I will reach a full week soon, but my thighs got so tired for the 1st couple of weeks, they weren't sore but just felt really weak, as if operating at only 50% capacity. I've covered over 100 miles on the bike since fitting a speedo, which was on about the 10th of May.

I hope to make the 19st something mark by Tuesday next week as I promised you guys I'd be in the 19's by end of May/1st week of June.
