Guess now is as good a time as any to join the bandwagon, every bit of motivation helps.
Some background first. Have always been relatively active, mainly through either playing football or training. Unfortunately I've also always been quite a big eater (I'm unwilling to blame my metabolism, I fully accept it's greed

). The end result of this being my weight is never stable, I have
always been either slowly putting weight on or knocking it off. Over the past 3 or 4 years the time I've been putting into exercise has been dropping, and over the past 12-15 months has come to a complete stop. The subsequent fall in fitness level and rise in trouser size will shock nobody. I can use the 'family commitments' excuse that I'm sure many of us can, but ultimately it comes down to being motivated enough to find the time. Recently that time has been handed to me on a plate, and I intend to make the most of it

.
I first recorded my weight on the 25th of April, and was shocked to find I was 14st 9lb. Not shocked because I thought I'd be less, I fully expected more. But that weigh in followed a good 3 weeks of eating very little due to stress, so I would most certainly have been 15st+ at the very start.
As of this monday I weighed in at 12st 10.5lb, which at 5"11 brings me out of the overweight BMI category by the narrowist of margins. I keep my routine as simple as I can, first the easy part - the diet. While it's true I'm a bit of a monster once I get going, I've also never had a problem cutting all the junk out when needed (as long as I cut it
all out). So it's one protein shake in the morning, one afternoon meal (usually chickin + veg, pasta or beans) and one protein shake in the evening. Will often have an apple late afternoon also. I actually began with simply the one meal per day, but hit a wall after 2 or 3 weeks, presumably due to taking in way too few calories. Since adding the shakes everything has got back on track.
Exercise, for the time being I'm focusing entirely on cardio, so it's out for a jog every morning. Typically I will do around 5-6k, although for the last week I've had to miss most days due to a pretty awful chest/cough. The couple times I did try to go out I did about half of what I would normally, the second time I decided not to bother until I could do a full run (which hopefully will be tomorrow). Having always done a fairly even split between weights/cardio I'll be looking at doing the same again at some point, for the time being I'll stick to cardio at least until I'm somewhere in the 11st bracket.
And that's it so far, I should still be on course for 12st 9lb on my weigh in come monday, although it remains to be seen what effect no exercise will have had. That will be 2st loss in 7 weeks should I manage it, not the most efficient weight loss of course but I prefer the quicker approach and don't mind dealing with any extra muscle loss somewhere down the line.
Still a long way to go and tbh I don't actually know what my 'ideal' weight is, I'm sure I'll know it when i get there
