2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Well I started at 119.3 kg now 116.2 (weighed today) not sure if its cheating but i'm using the diet chef meals, I have issues with portion size and the food I eat, seems to be working.
Might do some before and after pics will see how i get on.

edit: Started on the 4th of August.

Bet that's costing a fair bit, what are you going to do once you reach target weight? It's really good you're losing weight, but if you don't sort out the mental/emotional issues you have with food, you're going to put it all back on when you finish with the diet chef.

Since Jan I've lost around 60 lbs, that was with a few month stall where I didn't really gain or lose since I wasn't really on plan.

Since the end of July I've been back on plan and lost another 16 or so lb. But in that time my emotional/mental issues with food are all but gone, I no longer need huge portions, I don't binge eat, I don't have massive cravings for all the bad types of food I used to eat. I think I'm pretty well prepared for once I hit a weight I'm happy with and being able to keep it off.

Started at around 19st three years ago and now I'm sitting at 15st 7lbs and the difference is astronomical.
I'm determined to drop below 15st before uni in october but given that progress slowed down dramatically since hitting 16st it's probably going to take more than simply cutting down my portions along with some light exercise which has worked up until this point. It is still dropping, but at the rate of 1/2lb or 1lb a week... I just need to speed it up a bit.

Incredible job fellas, I bet it's quite something to post pics in here then look back and see how much you've lost. I found an XXL shirt in my wardrobe - I used to fit in to that! The only downside of this is having to replace all my clothes a bit at a time but its sooo worth it :D

I completely agree, the cost is not to bad as most my meals were ready made as even though i'm married me and the wife eat different foods, shes a vegi and only eats a few different things. Being on the diet chef has already taught me that i only need one scoop of food not three so its a start, the cost is less than i normally spend on food as we used to have at least one takeaway a week along with all the meals bought in. I'm doing 3 months on the diet chef which i want to get to as close to 100kgs as i can, im also using myfitnesspal to make sure i get enough calories a day and a bit off a blog.

Joined Weightwatchers 2 months ago and got a huge shock when I found I was just short of 25 stone (24st 12) as never thought I was that heavy.

In the 2 months since I have now got down to 22st 11 which I'm happy about, next plan is to start getting myself down the gym.

Best part I have found is I can still enjoy the food I like but I now think more about portion sizes and what I am eating.

Hi there,

Right people seem to be posting a few pics so i'll add my contribution :D

Nearly a year ago to the day i finally decided to do something about my considerable weight - i was a huge 30st 12llbs this time last year, and on Friday i hit 18st 12llbs, so 12 stone exactly gone :D

Sorry about the poor quality pics in the after photo's, the only room with a full size mirror is very bad lit!!!

Cheers mate, and congrats to you :D

That goes to everyone one else who has lost weight on this thread as well!!!

I'm now about 4 stone overweight, and my GP estimates i have 1st+ of excess skin, for which he has referred me to the hospital for removal, however i am waiting to see if our local PCT will fund the operation.

Fingers crossed!!!!

Absolutely fantastic mate :) Really well done. I do hope that the PCT will cover it, given how much you have helped yourself. You've easily saved them enough from not having to treat you for weight related problems to cover the cost of this!

Also, you considered asking for a name change from Cookie to say Carrot? :p Cookie doesnt fit as well anymore.

Thanks a lot, and lol and the name change suggestion :D

I'm hoping the PCT do fund it, however i do know the NHS is not exactly brimming with money and it is a cosmetic procedure - but it is having a detrimental effect on my confidence as having so much skin does make you feel horrible etc. Being that big was not great either but hopefully you'll get what i mean!!

But yes i did save the NHS a lot of money by refusing a gastric band / bypass procedure as my GP was prepared to refer me for one. I went in asking for help in loosing weight and with my BMI being 54 at the time, he pretty much offered me the weight loss surgery straight away as i fulfilled the criteria. I refused and said i wanted help and advice on how to try and loose it on my own first.

I knew exercise was going to be a big contributing factor in loosing weight before even seeing the GP, but my lack of knowledge in nutrition is where my problems lay (obviously lol). After seeing people about my diet, and changing my eating habbits and becoming active and slowly building that level of activity up as i got slimmer and fitter has changed my life.

I have done no gimmick diet / plan, it is just as simple as looking at what you eat, everything in moderation and maintaining an active lifestyle. I have 1 treat meal a week and even then i don't go mad (i had a curry last night :)) and do 30mins - 1hour of exercise 4-5 times a week.

Cookie - maybe carrot from now on :D

Heaviest was back in 2007 and since about 2009 I've been on a diet, lost the bulk down to 15st 7lb on cambridge diet and since then, gym/eating right/working too hard :@, that last picture taken about 2 months ago..

Currently weighing:
13st 12lb a mere few minutes ago

Just out of interest for the people who started at over 17st, how many calories were you eating a day when you were losing weight? I'm on a low carb diet and find it really hard to go over about 1100-1200 calories because with all the fat and protein I'm eating and all the water I'm drinking I just don't often feel hungry. I often use healthy snacks like mixed unsalted nuts to bring me up to around 1400-1500 and I'm still losing nicely 2-3 lbs per week. Just wondering what others have done.

ToejaMz0r - WOW - what a transformation :) congrats

heres a before and after shot of me - no real major change in diet other than cutting out crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks - but added about 1 1/2 hrs exercise (fitness freak now) a day - now a mixture of runner and weight lifter

pictures about 3 years apart: - only 5'4 so take that into account with weights below

before: 13 stone 9, 37 inch waist- was out of breath jogging up stairs to work cantine
after: 9 stone 8.5, 27 inch waist, completed first 10 mile race a few months back (and came 200th/700 - beating a load of club runners) - and am seriously into weight lifting

not been easy - a lot of hard work infact - but so worth it - current regime is 6 gym sessions a week (3 including cardio) + 2-3 8k runs in the evening

fitter than I've ever been though

About the same, between 1300-1500 per day, losing 2-3lbs a week as well.

still losing the weight, just shy of 6'1" and now only 12st7lbs, i'm averaging about a 1lb loss every fortnight, I'm wondering when it's going to level out! BMI of 30.3 to 23.3 in 18 months, yipee :).

Just thought I'd post a little update on whats been happening with me.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=19812689&postcount=372

I managed to get down to 18st10 the day before we left for our overnight stop in Gatwick before flying out to Orlando, the day we flew into Gatwick my diet stopped. I had all sorts of crap to eat just whilst in London for the day. We landed in Gatwick at 12pm and headed in to Crawley for lunch and to watch the Inbetweeners movie. I had a Subway foot long for lunch, which was amazing, we don't have a Subway or any other fast food chain in Guernsey for that matter! I then had some Ben&Jerrys ice cream in the cinema and popcorn. In the evening we went to the M&S in Gatwick arrivals and had a sandwich meal deal with a chocolate mousse thing, a generally woeful day for my calorie intake, but hey I was on holiday! Woke up the morning of our flight to Orlando and had a McDonalds breakfast in the morning which was a real treat, as I said earlier, no fast food in Guernsey!

The whole time in Florida my calorie consumption was off the chain, everything is so much bigger, greasier and cheaper in the good ol' US of A! I was having huge burgers, huge pizzas, huge steaks or TexMex style food every day of the holiday, of course most of it was served with fries too! I was having calorie filled and sugar laden drinks to wash all this down, as well as a beer or two most nights in the hotel room. After two weeks of eating like this I started to feel fat again, not as in bigger but my energy levels depleted, I found it difficult to get up in the mornings, started getting spots and just felt generally uncomfortable in my own skin.

When I arrived back in Guernsey the first thing I did was jump on the scales to find out how much of a set back I had had and was shocked to have put on a full stone in 16 nights worth of holiday, almost a full pound a day or around a 3500kcal overeat per day, bear in mind it was an active holiday too with hours of walking per day and swimming for a few hours every other day too! That night was the last of my holiday so I topped it all off with a nice big chinese take away, something we hadn't had locally for months.

I got back on the diet this Wednesday and am quite shocked at how quickly that stone has dropped off, well almost all of it, this evening on the scales I weighed 18st13, only 3lb more than I left Guernsey at or 11lbs lighter than I did on Tuesday evening. I've no idea why I retained so much weight over the holiday or why it dropped off so quickly after that, what I do know though is that I'm so pleased I've only added 3lbs over two weeks of USA fast food style eating, and I also had a brief reminder of how nutritionally crap food had been making me feel for the past 7 years.

Don't worry it was most probably water that caused you to lose so much when you came back, it happens in this sort of situation and when you begin eating healthy after such bad eating habits.

It's a nice bit of a kick start but after the initial quick weight loss the hard work comes in and you'll be losing weight much slower.

Goodluck, I'm aiming to reach somewhere in the 12 stone mark by Christmas - currently just 1/2lbs over 14 stone.

For the weight to go on that fast and come off that fast it had to be water retention, so not really anything to worry about, gaining 3lbs over the 16 nights seems much more realistic.

I jumped on the scales this morning and since Jan I've lost a total of 70lbs, my soft goal is to lose another 40 or so and see how I look/feel and then decide from there if I'm going to lose more weight, or just maintain.
