2011 Weight Loss Thread!

Lost 10lb in June taking me down to 16st 5 another 2.5 stone to go.

Doing 2 x 30m rides and 2 x 10m rides per week with a few weights sessions chucked in.

Great work so far Pixel! How has the weight loss affected your diabetes out of interest? Do you think if you carry on losing weight you'll no longer be diabetic or was it not triggered by your weight/diet originally?

Sorry I didn't see this until today.

At the moment, my change in diet has actually caused my blood sugar levels to go awry, and it's because I'm eating less carbs which help to keep energy/blood sugar levels steady. I'm working on it though as I'm not prepared to give up the weight loss just yet, and I've made an appointment to see a Diabetic specialist who will hopefully have a better insulin plan for me to go onto.

My type of Diabetes is hereditary, so unfortunatley there is no possibility of a cure through diet.

That is great work by Pixel. I need to start losing weight. I'm a similar height and weight to Pixel and I'm also a type 1 diabetic.

Type 1 is the one where insulin is taken and its permanent. Weight loss will make maintaining steady levels much, much easier but you can never get rid of it so no matter how much weight Pixel loses, Type 1 diabetes will still be there. Type 2 is the one where weight/diet can be a cause.

I would have thought that losing weight would help Pixel to have more stable levels and find them easier to maintain, as well as using less insulin to maintain those levels. Correct me if I'm wrong Pixel. :)

As above, it's actually been the opposite so far due to the lack of stability that carbs give you, but that could just be down to the insulin plan I'm on. I've had problems with the current plan ever since they forced me onto it after they stopped producing my old insulin. However, you're right in that I am injecting a lot less, which is always good.

If I find an insulin plan which allows me to carry on this diet with more stable blood sugar levels, I'll be sure to share it.

Cheers for that Pixel - I hope you find a good plan which aids as much as possible towards your goals.

Just a quick update from me, I'm down to 19st 8.75 which I'm happy with as had another big session over the weekend!

Another quick update:-

Now down to 20st 7llbs, still not got round to joining a gym.

Next goal is get into the 19's ASAP, hopefully a few weeks time, but I'm having a few issue's with motivation at the moment.

Last few weeks i've been on the treadmill 3-4 times a week for 1 hour at a time, done loads of boxing and weights and kept very strictly to the diet and one week i lost no weight and the second week i lost 1 pound. So it's gets a bit disheartening putting all that effort in for little gains at the moment. But i was expecting some bad weeks, so i just hope my perseverance will eventually pay off.

Down to 19st 12llb now :D

I know that's still heavy, but hey i started out at 30st 12llb (so exactly 11st has gone!!) so i'm chuffed at the moment.

I've gone from a 66in Chest/Waist down to a 48/50, so it's a major difference.

Got a a lot of loose skin now, which is not a pretty sight, i know a 30st man isn't either, and i'm going to see the GP to see what i need to do to get it cut off. I'm assuming i need to get down to my ideal weight (14st something) and maintain it for a while before even being considered due to the costs etc.

That is quite a loss! Well done!

Time for me to jump in...

Always been a big lad, but carry it pretty well. This year I found that Im going to be a Dad, so plan on sheding the bulge to give my little boy a better experience - and to stay around a bit longer!

Started 2 weeks ago at 22 stones (5'10)

As of Tuesday I weighed 20st 2lb - I'm aiming to be 20st or below on Sunday morning.

I'm at the gym 4 times a week, 1 hour per session 70/30 split on cardio & upper body weights.

Limited to around 1000 kcal a day, keeping a careful eye on carb intake (but not eliminating it)

The plan is to be at 17 stone (stretch for 16) by the time the little man arrives, then carry on down to 14 - with a lot more muscle.

Wish me luck!

Thanks a lot :D

It's unbelievable how different i feel now, this time last year i was at my heaviest, yet now it feels like years ago. It's been very very hard and it's very easy to get disheartened at times (as per previous posts) when you do loads of work one week with hardly any results, yet some weeks i've done the same amount of work and lost 4,5,6llbs in a week. Very weird how the body works sometimes.

Patience and determination are 2 of the biggest factors you need + others obviously, without them you are doomed to fail. I'm aiming for another 2-3 stone, and i think i'll be happy.

I'll post some pics soon, when i pluck up the courage :) - i'm not happy in front of a camera and so don't have that many of myself, especially at my biggest.

dmpoole who is a regular on these forums can verify my success as i work in the same offfice as him :D

Just got back from living away whilst attending a course since January, and have been rather horrified to discover I've put on 1st 2 lb since then!

Obviously, this will not do, plus when I got up there, I was hoping to go someway to losing the extra 2-2 & 1/2 stone I was already carrying, so to discover I've actually put on weight in pretty disappointing. Thus, it's my intention to try and lose 3 st 9lb between now, and when I go back to my second college phase during mid next March. I have a rather unique opportunity between now and then however, as I'll be going to sea for four months during that period. I can ask the cook aboard ship to cater toward a healthier diet, and I'll have access to a gym, plus the isolated nature of a ship at sea means I can't grab a lunchtime Subway or a few beers after work, which I think has been my undoing, the devil brew. It's kinda hard not to go on a multi-year course without socialising with your peers.

It'll be hard, I've no doubt, but with 8 months and a bit of focus and determination, I'm sure I can do it.

Good luck dude if you set your mind to it anythings possible.

Im in the same boat and I've finally got off my ass. I do karate twice a week not for the "combat" (Its more of a sport these days it seems) but because its so intense and is one heck of a workout. Hihgly recommended. Bonus - you meet lots of new people and the instructors are there to kick you up the butt if you slack off a bit...just what I need!

I also go to a circuit class twice a week so thats Mon-Thur covered. (Fri-Sun=Oblivion :D )

I need to fix myself. Im about 11kg overweight. Im at 86kg and really need to drop it to 75kg for starters. Even more shameful is the stupid belly which is touching 101cms. Feel ashamed just typing this but im doin it so hopefully I can jump on here and type smaller numbers one day.

Good tip for OP: forget the whole "moderation" thing (enjoy junk food..but in moderation). Quit it cold. Its really hard I warn you - but surprisingly the cravings go in about 2 weeks. This is my fourth week with no junk...zero biscuits, crisps, takeout, burgers, chocolates, candy, ice cream, bread, pasta, cereals (oh yea those "healthy" breakfast cereals aint all good) basically all the crap has stopped. Ive switched to fruit and more veg. Its not that bad and slowly...very slowly Im seeing the first results.I was 89kgs just about 5 weeks ago.

I know all of us are different but from what Im experiencing - the quitting of junk food has been a revelation. Can almost feel your body thanking you.

Quick update from me, I'm finally under the 19st mark, 18st 13 today. I'm not sure why the last few pounds have come off so slowly though, I just seemed to plateau. My diet has been good so it's a little frustrating, but I'm on my way!

I've got exactly 8 days before we leave Guernsey for London, 9 days before we leave Gatwick for Orlando, in those 9 days it's my mission to get down to 18st 9 - cranking up the exercise and sticking to the same diet.

Around 23st compared to 18st13lb - not seeing 4st of difference between these pics though :S

I came in here to post an update to my progress:

I'm down to 17 stone 9lbs, and my size 36 jeans are now starting to fall down, but I've put a little muscle mass on too!

I am a very heavy bloke, a personal trainer i was talking to the other day who im going to start seeing had mentally estimated my weight to be about 14.5 15 stone, he was gobsmacked when i told him to add another 3 onto that!

My weight VS height still leaves me in the OBESE category of BMI It's not the best photo in the world, but i'm definitely not a bodybuilder although i do have a bit of muscle from resistance work (pushups etc), so how the hell can anyone praise the BMI when it's telling me im not just overweight, but OBESE?

I don't actually know my bodyfat percentage, and it would be interesting to know as the only actualy fat fat really left on my body is around my stomach and a tiny bit around my chest muscles. My legs are very solid and very large around the thigh area, i imagine almost all of my excess weight is here.

But yea, there's my update!

You weight 20 stone 5 in the BOTTOM picture? You look very thin in the shoulders etc to be carrying that kinda weight!

I am generally a heavy person for my size,

This is me at just over 20 stone:

This is me a few days ago at 17 stone 6 lbs, with an 18.5" Neck and fairly wide shoulders. When i was 20 stone i looked very wide, which you dont!

I'm also 6'4 for reference.

OK another update on this guys :)

Getting there now, seeing a real advantage in my basketball as im returning to fitness, i could barely touch the rim when i picked it up again 10months ago;

Been keeping tabs on this thread from the start and some truly excellent results, a lot for people to be proud of :D

I'm currently doing the celeb slim regime as they have had it on special down from £25 a week to just £5 a week and it seems to be working pretty well for me, a lot of people will slate this type of diet or a fad etc but it seems to be doing well for me so long may it continue lol

Starting weight was 22 stone and I'm now down to 20,6 in just under 5 weeks, no real excersise as my right foot has been pretty damn sore (gout etc and it keep coming back) I'm 6'2 and people always said I carried it quite well and that when i actually revealed my weight to people which was very very rarely they was surprised how heavy I was to how I looked.

I go on holiday in 6 weeks and wouldn't mind fitting into one of my fav Carhartt t shirts again and that's my motivation, plus the fact one of my mates is going and I don't want to take my top off in front of him and his wife lol

Now my ankle/foot is on the repair I'm going to really kick up the excersise level, my only worry with this is my muscles will get stronger etc meaning I won't actually lose much weight due to muscle heavier etc.

Keep up the good work everyone, let the celeb slim bashing begin lol

Matt

Update from me:

On April 19th I started my weight loss, I weighed in at 17st 1lb. At 5ft 7...which was a disgusting weight to be.

I'll let the pics do the talking.

Day of weight loss start, then 2 months later

250627_10150600148065261_814305260_18749016_8353348_n.jpg

Then one a couple of weeks after totalling at 39lbs lost

And now this one, just weighed myself today, so almost 4 months to the day - Total weight loss. 50.3lbs

I know the last pic is rubbish, but I'm useless at self portraits! Stuff I'm noticing, my torso is now getting shape definition to it, before it was shoulders, moobs, gut. Now it's shoulders, dip, collar bone, done, much smaller moobs, rib cage, onto some abs, and now gut :p

Either way, I'm chuffed! And I start the gym in a week :D - Swimming for the win! Oh and one last thing. I was a tight 44inch waist, now a comfy 36 :)
